Opel Meriva 2010

Place your bets! The 2011 European car of the year finalists have been announced and as usual it’s a motley but interesting mix. The seven finalists show a strong presence of European brand cars with the lovely Alfa Romeo Giulietta heading the bunch (in alphabetical order not because we think it will win). There is both the Citroen C3 and the Citroen DS3 and while we really dig the latter as a car it might have just a bit too much personality and too few doors to win.

The low-cost Dacia Duster comes next and while it won our financial crisis car, it’s probably not the best example of a compact and economical SUV on the European market. But its presence in the final list is telling and a bit of a coup for Dacia. Both the Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max are on the list and then we have the Nissan Leaf. Could 2011 be the year for an all-electric vehicle…? Rounding off the finalists are the Opel Meriva and the Volvo S60 and Volvo V60. If you’d like to have your say about who might win, start posting your comments!
