You might debate whether the Honda CRZ should even be included in a Performance Car of the Year test drive, hardly being included in that segment, so we take this video from AutoExpress with a pinch of salt given that we’re not really clear on what their definition of performance really is. It starts get to interesting after the first part with the hot hatches out of the way, where performance cars such as the Mercedes SLS AMG, Audi R8 and company show off their kit.

There are a few surprises, like the Jaguar XJ Supersports being described as an ‘absolute drift machine’ on the track - and the video proves it. And like the Renault Sport Megane 250 Cup which comes in front of vehicles like the Aston Martin Rapide and the Audi RS5. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS comes in as too ‘hard core’ for everyday use (but we thought this was about performance cars…? Were they going for the best road or track use?) and is beaten by the Mercedes E63 AMG which has got both cruisy sedan and track performance down pat.

The top five models are a real mix and the video is worth the watching to find out what they are. There will be plenty of polemics over these results but we think the number one and number three models are probably on the money in terms of track performance cars. They might have the price tags to match but they wouldn’t be dream vehicles otherwise. The video is after the jump.
