Here’s a rendering of what the 2012 Opel Cross Corsa could look like and while we’re not really fans of the compact SUV bandwagon, it’s a model that probably makes a lot of sense for Opel. The Corsa SUV will introduce some of the new elements we’ll find on the fifth edition compact car, which is expected to turn up in 2013. A new platform will debut on the Cross Corsa and we should also get stop&start technology and optional dual-clutch transmission.
While the Cross Corsa has been described as an SUV model, it’s more like what its name suggests - a crossover. It will be 410 cm long with a higher wheelbase height, but it won’t have four-wheel-drive. It will clearly compete with the new Volkswagen CrossPolo and the Dacia Sandero Stepway. It could even squeeze itself into competition with the Suzuki SX4, Toyota Urban Cruiser and Nissan Juke. For brands such as Volkswagen and Opel this is a new segment and we’ll be interested to watch how the market receives them.
