Skoda Fabia RS test drive

Posted: Thursday 26 August 2010 by Alison

The Skoda Fabia RS equipped with the same 1.4-litre TSI engine with 180 hp as the Volkswagen Polo GTI and the Seat Ibiza Cupra, could be considered as giving similar performance as those two cars but at a lower price. We personally are not sold on the style of the Fabia RS so much, but that’s probably not something that will worry purchasers too much.

As the guys at Autocar say, not only is the Fabia RS snappy in its drive at the top end, through mid-range revs it’s also quite flexible. The seven-speed DSG gearbox makes for a fun drive, but not as fun as a manual would prove. Given it’s design, while it might not be the most attractrive hot hatch around it’s practical and roomy and comes in a station wagon, too.

Volkswagen has undercut its own Polo GTI on price with the Skoda, meaning you can get plenty of power for less money than the Polo or the Ibiza Cupra mentioned before. In the 90-second verdict, there’s not a lot of room to talk about whether that lower price greatly affects the quality of the vehicle but one thing is for sure - you’re still getting a zippy little hatch.
