This Saab 91 concept was designed by Fabio Ferrante as part of the open source design group, Saab 91 Petition and Support. The group, which you can find on Facebook, has been set up to promote the development of a new Saab 91 compact model taking the 91 Safir aircraft as its inspiration (which has roots in both Sweden and the Netherlands and hence a nod to Spyker, too).
While it all sounds a bit cuddly and even far fetched, the design produced by Ferrante is so good we could actually see it going into production. While it’s obvious that some of the more over-the-top features would have to be toned down, we like the hatch look with its flowing roof and wrap-around windscreen.
It’s got a sporty and aggressive style and looks like it could really compete with the likes of the Mini and the Audi A1. That’s becoming a more crowded segment and we think Saab, and new owners Spyker, would be doing some serious research on the possible slice of market for them before getting their feet wet. All we can say is, though, what a way to petition!
