The European Car of the Year prize is gearing up for 2011 and there are plenty of models to choose from. 2010 saw the success of the Volkswagen Polo, which followed the Opel Insignia in 2009 and the Fiat 500 in 2008. 35 cars have been nominated for the 2011 European Car of the Year prize, who rules state that cars must go on sale within the 12 months leading up to nominations, and that they must sold in at least 5,000 units, obviously on the European market.

European journalists vote on the prize, and come from the following publications: Auto (Italy), Autocar (UK), Autopista (Spain), Autovisie (the Netherlands), AutomobileMagazine (France), Stern (Germany) and Vibilagare (Sweden). The criteria is not set in stone and so potentially any of the vehicles nominated could win. See after the jump for the 2011 European Car of the Year candidates. Start your votes below!
