Fiat 500 TwinAir engines: hybrid in new line-up

Fiat 500 TwinAir

Reports say that Fiat could be working on a hybrid model using its new 500 TwinAir engines. The Fiat 500 would have room enough for hybrid technology given the more compact 900cc, twin-cylinder engines take up less space. We could see a TwinAir, electric motor and dual-clutch transmission combination as part of expansion plans of the TwinAir line-up.

The Fiat 500 TwinAir will be available from September in the current 84 hp which corresponds to the same power output as the 1.4-litre engine on offer. A new powerstep in 64 hp will be developed, which is equivalent to the 1.2-litre engine, and the range will likely be topped off with a 105 hp version.

The first TwinAir on the market will be priced the same as the 1.4-litre engine but obviously has the benefit of much lower fuel consumption, which Fiat claims is a 30-percent reduction. Fiat also plans to use the TwinAir engines in other brands, most likely Lancia, and has ambitions for a production rate of 400,000 units a year.

Speaking of the hybrids Fiat, the technology double clutch with electric motor between has been borrowed by a patent that Fiat Company has never wanted to purchase, but only shamelessly to copy. I invite to visit my blog where her “vitality” of the Fiat planners it appears in all of evidence:

Whoever appreciates an honest industrial ethics in defence of intellectual ownership should spread out my blog. If the industries can afford unpunished to copy the ideas and defending it need very expensive causes, to which target need the patents? How our young people (specially in Italy) can find intellectual courage if the economic potentates crush the rights of the single ones?

I think the car is brilliant and for a Londoner makes complete sense. It’s compact, has good power, but most of all fuel efficient and low on carbon emissions! I didn’t know this till I saw the Fiat 500 Twin air on their website. And the options are plenty.
I’m sure to book in a test drive soon and make my decision.
    Thanks for sharing! :)
