This rendering of a possible new Mercedes A-Class hatchback is a little too in the style of the new Alfa Giulietta for my liking, but it shows that Mercedes is getting serious about launching a hatch model aimed at young people, and which might hit other German hatches right between the eyes.
A Mercedes A-Class hatchback would play the same crowded field as models like the Audi A3, the BMW 1 Series and even the Volkswagen Golf (although we expect that Mercedes would have a rather different price point than the latter). It’s all part of Mercedes’ mission to strip some young customers from its rivals.
Is Mercedes too much your father’s brand to achieve this? That will all depend on the style of the new car. I’m not sold on this rendering, produced by AutoExpress, as it’s less refined than what I expect from Mercedes. Which is probably the point of it and may be the only way that Mercedes can lure the younger market - by shedding some of its snooty (but much appreciated) looks. What do you think?
