From Auto Motor und Sport a comprehensive precis about the return of the Volkswagen Scirocco.
The new Scirocco is expected in 2008 and it will be produced in Portugal. VW expects to sell 150,000 units over the life-cycle, thanks to a “driving fun at affordable prices” philosophy.
The Scirocco should be based on the Golf V platform, but it will be 10 cm lower, 4,5 cm longer and 3 cm wider (4.25 m long, 1.39 m high and 1.79 m wide). Prices should be halfway between the Golf and the Eos, starting from 22.000 €.
The design is not expected to recall old Sciroccos, but there will be an attempt to make the VW design more “emotional”: a big honeycomb grille in the front, long engine hood and a truncated tail.
A-M-S writes strange things about the engine range: two versions of the 1.4 TSI twin-charger (115 and 140 hp) , the 2.0 Turbo FSI with 200 hp, while a V6 engine is a possibility for an R32 or R36. It’s surprising not to see the 170 hp version of the 1.4 TSI engine, while a 2.0 TDI 140 hp diesel engine is thought to be a certainty.
You can find other sketches of the new Scirocco in AMS’ image gallery, together with a retrospective on old Sciroccos.
