When extremely fast cars are tuned up to make them a bit quicker and given a body kit that doesn’t change the styling much, we always ask why the tuner has bothered. In this case the tuner’s name isn’t as well known as the 90 year old Jaguar brand either, but what Arden have created with the AJ 20 RS is worth a look, if only because they’ve managed to squeeze another 100 hp from the supercharged 5.0 litre V-8 under the bonnet of the Jaguar XKR-S.
We haven’t had detailed specs but a prototype has been able to produce 645 hp and 592 lb-ft of torque. A new front splitter and side skirts change the appearance, so the Arden looks a little less sophisticated and a bit more aggressive than the Jaguar it’s based on. A mesh grille and a stainless steel sports exhaust add to the look and each corner sits on new 21 inch alloys.
There is a choice of trim inside, so owners can have carbon fibre or wood trim, and can choose either Alcantara or leather upholstery. A sports steering wheel and alloy pedals complete the look.
German tuning house Arden have said that the AJ 20 RS will be truly customisable, so the new body kit pieces will be available in whichever colour you want. There’s no word yet on the price, but we’re not sure it will be too big a hurdle for any customer no matter what value Arden put on the kit. What’s a few thousand pounds for the kit when you need £97,000 to get your hands on the XKR-S?
