According to Autoweek the Volkswagen GX3 will probably never be a production car. The uncertain legal status of this three-wheeled roadster (bike ? car ?) would make it financially risky in the US: it might expose VW to huge legal liabilities in case of incidents, while the financial rewards of a small production run would be too small. It would be a pity: I liked the idea of a 15.000 $ roadster with a 1.6 liter / 125 hp engine, capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in only 5.7 seconds, with an average consumption of only 5.2 liters / 100 km, thanks to the low weight (570 kg)
A final decision is expected shortly. It’s always possible that the GX3 might be produced for European markets only, or that Lotus might step up (it’s been helping VW with the GX3’s development).
