In occasion of the Mille Miglia 2006, BMW presents a retrò Coupè Concept Car, based on the Z4 M Coupè and inspired on the 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupè (winner of the 1940 edition).
The Coupè Concept Mille Miglia is 23 cm longer than the Z4 Coupè. Underneath, everything is state of the art (the 6L 3.2 engine with 343 ps, carbon fiber underbody with fins and diffusers),
outside it is decidedly retrò. As BMW says:
On the surface, the BMW Concept Coupé unmistakably bears the traits of
a racing sports icon. Its bodywork design is oriented on the BMW 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupé, that legendary two-seater with which Fritz Huschke von Hanstein and Walter Bäumer drove home the victory during the Mille Miglia in 1940. Their speed record – average speed: 166.7 km/h – has remained until today. No other Mille Miglia victor – neither before nor since – ever travelled as fast as the BMW 328 Mille Miglia Coupé with its touring body, which was driven by the legendary “racing baron”.
BMW says that there will be no production version of anything similar to the Concept Mille Miglia. It is an homage to the 328 Touring Coupè and to the engineers that conceived it.
