A competition version of the Porsche 918 Spyder concept will debut at the 24-hour Nurburgring in 2011. The news comes as the 2010 event is about to close which saw the debut of the first 911 GT3R Hybrid. It was leading the racing until a technical problem forced it to retire.
The 918 Spyder was presented as a concept model at this year’s Geneva Motor Show and it’s equipped with a 3.4-litre V8 engine based on the RS Spyder, and three electric motors. The rseult is a total of 718 hp and some incredible figures: just 3 l/100 km of fuel consumption and 70 g/km of CO2 emissions. It has a top speed of 320 km/hr and can reach 100 km/hr in just 3.2 seconds.
It looks like a market debut for the 918 Spyder is certain and we can’t wait to see it at the classic 24 hr Nurburgring race where it could be more than just a curiosity on the track and every bit a real contender.
