At first sight the pictured prototype might look like a mule for the next generation Renault Scenic, but if you look closely you will notice that this is not exactly the case. With the Nissan Juke-based Renault Captur already developed and presented, the engineers of the French carmaker have now started to work at their next SUV project, and when this chopped up Scenic will ready for debut it will be a new midsize SUV based on the next generation of the successful Nissan Qashqai, meaning it will have none of that Scenic body worn by this mule.
So what makes us so sure that this is a mule for a brand new compact SUV and not for a new variant of the Renault Scenic? First of all it’s riding on bigger wheels and its riding higher than a normal Scenic. Plus, it has some extra weight added both at the roof and front fenders to simulate a higher weight distribution. And since we have already seen and published the photos of the “Cross” version of the Scenic, we can pretty much rule that out at once.
There are not many details around as for the possible name, engine line-up and pricing of this quite mysterious model, but we might expect the see the first concept versions of this new compact SUV to pop up at the next 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show later this year, with Renault that might reveal the definitive production version of the model on home soil at the next Paris Motor Show, which will take place in the fall 2014.
