After a five-year career, spy shots of the new Ferrari 612 Scaglietti have appeared, showing a test mule near Maranello. While a more modern and nastier look is likely to be the focus, we could also see some new engine options, with Ferrari experimenting with its environmental qualifications on this very model.
According to reports, key changes to the body kit of the car mean this 612 Scaglietti could be fitted with quite a different powertrain. A longer nose and wheelbase, bump in the bonnet and heavily modified exhaust mean this is more than just a touch-up job.
The new 612 Scaglietti should debut sometime in 2011, possibly with a new V12 engine, although the 533 hp is likely to remain roughly that. The aim is to become greener, lowering emissions and fuel consumption, and possibly even using Ferrari’s Insertable 4×4 system or creating the first Ferrari hybrid.
