Audi will unveil the new 2014 Audi R8 during the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit (January 14-27). The German supercar is the most performance-oriented model from the house of the four rings, designed to be equally impressive on both road and track, and will obviously be packed with all the latest technologies you could think of. The new R8 will be offered in the usual three variants - V8, V10 and V10 Plus - and will come with a number of enhancements, including the new S-Tronic seven-speed gearbox that will allow the top of the range variant to trim down three tenths of a second on the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of the current version.
The engines available on for the new Audi R8 will all belong to the FSi family. The 4.2-liter V8 will provide 430 hp, the 5.2 V10 will produce 525 hp and the V10 Plus will unleash no less than 550 hp. This last one has a maximum torque of 540 Nm, which combined with the new transmission will allow the car to sprint from the standstill to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, reaching a top speed of 315 km/h (195 mph). The V8 will hit the 100 km/h mark in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), while the V10 will get to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds with 313 km/h (194 mph).
The ‘Plus’ will be 45 kg lighter than the normal V10 model because front splitter, rear diffuser and spoiler are made in carbon fiber, and the tank is smaller. Standard equipment includes Alcantara seats, ceramic brakes, LED lights, single-frame honeycomb grid, newly designed wing mirrors and round exhaust pipes. All variants of the 2014 Audi R8 may be coupled to a six-speed manual or automatic S-Tronic transmission. A Spyder body type will with the V8 and V10 engines will also be part of the offer.
