Drama in Italy after Fiat announces it will not be present at its home grown Bologna motor show, which for many Italians is like Mercedes saying it won’t attend Frankfurt. The news comes after Alfa MiTo production line workers are being retrenched, and the situation raises questions as to the future of the show.
Fiat had originally confirmed its presence, and the fact that it now won’t be attending, is sending ripples of uncertainty around the other exhibitors who have already confirmed their presence (including Ford, Peugeot, Porsche and Mercedes among others). BMW and Renault had already previously indicated they would not attend.
The fear is that this year could prove to be the swan song of the Bologna motor show, to the detriment of the Italian automobile sector and local market.
