These sketches show Renault’s new sports crossover model, the Captur that was revealed to the public at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Unfortunately much of the styling shown in the concept has been removed and what we’re left with is little more than an oversized Clio. That’s a shame because we loved the concept that was designed by Laurens Van den Acker, the Dutchmen whose work includes the stunning Mazda Nagare.
Although the styling has changed dramatically, the new 1.6 DCI engine with 160bhp that was developed for the concept will go into production. In the prototype it was linked to an EDC transmission that produced a top speed of 131mph and a standing start to 62mph time of 8.0 seconds. The Clio’s engine range will also be on offer, so a 1.5 litre diesel and 1.2 litre petrol will complete the line-up.
