Following on from the spy shots that we brought you earlier in the month, these are the first official images of the Mercedes CLA that will take its bow at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The baby saloon retains a lot of the design elements that were present in the Concept Style Coupe, which was displayed at 2012 Beijing Auto Show, including the sloping roofline that gives the saloon a coupe look.
The car is based on the same platform as the A-Class, and like the entry-level Merc it will be available as a front wheel drive. All-wheel drive 4Matic versions will also be offered along with a choice of three petrol and four diesel engines developing anywhere from 121bhp to 207bhp.
The range topping CLA 45 will use the 2.0 litre turbo found in the A45 AMG, so it will reach 62mph from a standing start in just 5.0 seconds and top out at an electronically limited 155mph.
More details will follow in January.
