Volkswagen’s competitor to the Ford Focus RS, the Golf R20 appears in these spy shots. The R20 has a massive power increase on the Golf GTI and we wonder if the Nurburgring hot hatch record could topple.

Did you think your Golf GTI with its 207 hp was something special? Well, you can forget it because the R20 has 260 hp. It is equipped with the EA113 2.0-litre engine with direct injection, replacing the six-cylinder R32.

The Golf R20 will have all-wheel drive and should reach 100 km/hr in less than six seconds. The R20 is taking on an aggressive look, and will share some features of the Scirocco R. It will have twin exhausts, lowered suspension, different suspension and an updated version of Volkswagen’s Adaptive Chassis Control.

As if the 2009 Frankfurt motor show could get anymore exciting than what it already is, the Golf R20 will debut meaning we can a closer look at this hot hatch contender.
