The third generation of the Maserati Ghibli GT has been caught in Sweden. Our exclusive shots show a camouflaged 2013 Maserati Ghibli on test. This is the first full prototype for the new Maserati. The initial testing was carried out with modified Quattroporte body panels, now we’re able to see that the new Maserati is noticeably shorter than its stablemate.
The car, which has been given the type name M157, will allow the Italian marque to rival German luxury cars like the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series and Audi A6. If rumours are to be believed, it will be built on a version of the existing Chrysler 300’s chassis and will feature technology taken from the American marque.
A 400 horsepower turbocharged version of Chrysler’s 3.5 litre V-6 is expected. A V-8 sourced from sister company Ferrari will also be offered. It’s too early for an exact launch date, but you can expect the third generation of the Maserati Ghibli to be unveiled during 2013.
