While we can’t imagine James Bond getting about in an electric Lotus, we applaud the company for its apparent investment in electric cars. Lotus Engineering is said to be developing an electric citycar, to engage with the future of environmental motoring.
The Lotus citycar will be equipped with an electric motor at 50 hp and will have a similar size to the Smart ForTwo. The vehicle will have lithium ion batteries placed under the floor, which can be recharged in 3.5 hours. The Lotus electric range will be approximately 50 km and the speed will be 105 km/hr.
Lotus is working on a design that would seat four people, and the chassis would be built from alluminium. While Lotus Engineering is behind the design, it is unlikely that the car will appear under this brand name, with Lotus providing the expertise.
