More power, less weight, and the longest name: Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works GP Tuning Kit.
The 1.6 engine has been squeezed until it gives 214,5 hp (245 Nm max torque). En attendant the english press kit, it seems from the German one that the Mini GP weighs about 40 kg less than the normal Mini JCW, thanks to the omission of things like the air conditioning (you can have it back without surcharge), some noise isolation and the back seat.
I have to say that 9 hp more and 40 kilos less is not exactly what was expected: the power to weight ratio is somewhat better than the one for the JCW (from 172 hp/ton to 185 hp/ton), but the price jumps up to 30.000 € pre-tax in Germany, something like 6.000 € more than the JCW, if confirmed.
Mini2.com has a readers’ survey, where 2/3 have chosen un sondaggio 2/3 dei lettori hanno scelto l’opzione “You gotta be kidding BMW - so dissapointed. What a let down.“. I have no doubts, though, that the entire 2.000 production run will be gone before anyone compiles a list of cars of more exciting cars that can be had for the same price.
