After an owner alerted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US to a possible safety issue with the Volkswagen Passat CC, the American car safety authority is undergoing an investigation into the car. The preliminary results suggest that the cooling fan can create a channel for oil to get to the engine, generating a risk of fire or serious damage.
The NHTSA has already written to Volkswagen America to alert them to the investigation of the Passat CC, and with the studies underway, the company could face the recall of the Passat CC in the US.
