Fiat is at the 2012 Los Angeles Motor Show with some interesting new models, some of which will be released on the North American markets only. Not all of them though. One of the most interesting ones is the 500e, an all-electric version of the popular Italian compact car that, however, will not be marketed in Europe. The Fiat 500e comes with an electric motor generating 83 kW (111 hp) fed by a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery. The range of the car is no less than 160 km (100 miles), 120 (75) at highway speeds. Charging, through a 240 V oulet, requires about 4 hours.
The Fiat 500c can be told apart from the normal 500 by the different bumper and redesigned alloy wheels, which adopt a very specific style. The interior boasts pretty peculiar white trim and cladding with contrasting elements. The shift lever is replaced by buttons that regulate the functions of the electric car. The 500c will hit the U.S. market in 2013.
Another interesting new offering from the Italian manufacturer showcased in L.A. is the Abarth 500c, or Fiat 500c Abarth if you prefer. In short, the convertible Scorpio has presented to the American public with its engine 1.4-litre MultiAir unit delivering 160 hp and 230 Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Characteristic features of this car are the dedicated 16-inch alloy wheels and the lowered sports suspension.
