Maserati has confermed its open-top GranTurismo version will be ready for March 2010, and its debut will likely occur at the Geneva motor show next year. The car’s name at this stage is set to be GranTurismo Spyder, according to tradition. Apart from a couple of reconstructions, the type of roof that will be used is still unclear: the choice is between a classic soft top or a more modern hard roof.
It is far more likely that we will see a soft top, and that the GranTurismo Spyder will cost about 130,000 USD. The new Maserati might be available exclusively in the S version, equipped with a 4.7 litre V8 at 440 hp, with automatic shift and Brembo brakes.
Despite the choice between the soft top or hard folding roof, which will increase weight, the Spyder should prove to have similar performance to the GranTurismo coupé.
