After the first gallery of 50’s and 60’s Alfas, we present a second gallery on historic Alfa Romeo models from the Cozzi museum in Italy, featuring those from the 70’s and 80’s. The period of 1970 to 1999 sees Alfa go through many highs and lows, represent in its models.
The more everyday use of these cars and common look, often hide some pearls in terms of mechanics and performance. This period often marks one in which ordinary customers wanted to life their Alfa passion, rather than rich or occasional clients.
Important models to note from this period are the Alfasud Sprint, Arna and 33. These models mark a move away from rear wheel drive and are the first front wheel drive models to be included in the Alfa range.
The transaxle and rear wheel models still hung around though, as seen in the Alfetta and Giulietta from the 80’s, and the SZ and RZ from the 90’s. In the museum exhibit is rare example of a Giulietta Turbodelta, with different technology in a dark period for Alfa.
With a new company plan and some shiny new models showing impressive performance, Alfa Romeo has come the full circle and is enjoying once again a heyday in the 21st century, economic downturns aside. In this museum, we can see a company that has come through with its heart, and less with its head, in a range of interesting and historic vehicles on display.
