After a quiet period, more spy shots today show us the much-awaited Audi RS5, appearing around the traps of the Nurburgring. Although the car has been talked about since the debut of the A5 in 2007, it is unknown which engine will appear under the Rennsport version of the lovely Audi coupé.
Talk has centred on the 4.2 litre V8 TFSI already installed on the RS4, which should develop a power increase up to 450 hp. Taking a look at the photo though, two large exhaust outlets emerge, which are the same as those of the RS6. The front single frame also presents dimensions similar to the RS6 sedan and Avant.
The RS5 could therefore be equipped with the twin turbo 5.0 litre V10 at 580 hp, the same used on the Rennsport A6. The guys from WorldCarFans also say the sound of the engine was impressive. Other features of this new Audi would be a quattro all-wheel drive and the R tronic, seven-speed transmission.
A fast six-speed transmission would also be available with 20-inch alloy wheels. The RS5 is expected to make its appearance in July, though we expect an official presentation at the Frankfurt motor show in September. Sales could start this year.
