The wait is over as Volkswagen releases new images and information on its Glof GTI. The Golf 6 GTI sales will start in Germany in the coming days, with a Europe-wide debut after Easter. Summer will see the introduction to Asian markets and the US, where the name will be Golf MkVI.
The new Golf GTI has a 2.0 litre TSI engine at 211 hp, but the news doesn’t stop just at the power step. Modifications to the oil and fuel system result in greater fuel saving and lower emissions.
The sixth series of the Golf GTI keeps to Euro 5 norms, and requires only 7.3 litres to run 100 km. That’s down from the previous eight litres of the 2.0 litre TFSI at 200 hp of the previous model. CO2 emissions sit at 170 g/km.
The Golf GTI has 280 Nm of torque at 1,700 rpm and reaches 100 km/hr in 6.9 seconds. Top speed is 240 km/hr. The new Golf is offered both with manual and DSG transmission at six speeds, and more than 30 percent of new Golf GTI models are expected to be ordered with twin clutch.
The new twin exhaust system gives the 2.0 litre TSI with its 211 hp plenty of sound. The GTI will have an entirely new sports chassis with XDS steering system and a lowered wheel base by 22 mm at the front and 15 mm at the rear.
Three drive modes on the Golf GTI will be available - normal comfort and sport, which regulate road grip and driving feel according to the driver’s preference. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is available along with Park Assist II and double xenon headlights.
