After plenty of talk, we finally get a look at the first official shots of the new Porsche Panamera. The photos have been released prior to the presentation launch and show a vehicle that reflects the history of the brand, taking elements from the 911, but that demonstrates the modern marketing plan of models such as the Cayenne and its diesel version.
This model could be a key indication of the future of the company and the role that the powerful marketing and sales departments of today’s business world will play. The current range now includes only about 50 percent of the original concepts from Ferdinand Porsche, which other companies could be quite normal, but in an iconic brand such as Porsche, it shows a slow revolution away from its roots.
In any case, the “fourth pillar” of the Porsche company will debut in dealerships in the coming months. The Porsche Panamera will be 4.97 metres long, 1.93 metres wide and 1.42 high with a wheel base of 2.92 metres. Other features include the 450-litre boot, electronic suspension, optional all-wheel drive and twin-clutch transmission.
The Panamera engines range from a V6, 3.6-litre at 300hp, to a V8, 4.8-litre asiprated or twin turbo at 400 and 500hp respectively. A 350hp hybrid version will also be available. While a diesel version has currently been denied, it wouldn’t surprise us to see a V8 Audi option appear.
The Panamera will be produced at Leipzig, next to the Cayenne assembly lines. Porsche expects to sell at least 20,000 units a year (although production, based on request, could rise to 50,000), 20 percent of which would be the turbo model. A minimum of 12,000 sales is required to balance the investment in developing and producing this model.
