While SUVs are generally considered a sure-fire way of gaining sales, crisis or no crisis, the CEO of Jaguar’s parent company, Ratan Tata, has given a firm ‘no’ to any questions regarding whether Jaguar would add a SUV to its portfolio or not.
It appears that Tata will be focussing on the strong points of the traditional Jaguar offering in 2009, with future models debuting mostly as sports cars and sedans. This would also protect the Land Rover brand, sister company to Jaguar, as the latter would provide no competition in the SUV sector.
Upcoming models that will be receiving some changes are the Xj, the Xk for a facelift, and the XKR-R. These will be evolutionary models, while debuting we will see the C-XE and C-XJ, along with a competitor to the Porsche 911. Mr.Tata is likely to be satisfied with the efforts, as will Jaguar afficionados.
