Citroen is leaving its mark on the concept car theme as well, in addition to showing the C-Cactus, is also in attendance with two diametrically opposed versions: the Hypnon and the GT Concept. The latter, after the interminable teasers, has been revealed in the presence of Kazunori Yamauchi, the mind behind the Polyphony, a project on which Citroen collaborated. The GT Concept is a suprising example of grunt from Citroen at five metres long, 2.08 metres wide and only 1.09 metres in height.
The aerodynamics are impressive, with a futuristic look and gran turismo competition aspect, but it’s the technical specs that are surprising: the GT Concept has an electric engine with combustion battery capable of 646hp… and an overboost function 138hp! With its 1400kg weight, including the battery and hydrogen tank, the GT Concept has a speed of 330km/hr and accelerates to 100km/hr in just 3.6 seconds.
The Hypnos Himotion4 concept is, however, an attempt at the crossover theme, with a pinch of coupè and plenty of technology. The book-opening doors reveal an interior with confusingly strong colours, but it reflects the statement this vehicle is trying to make. The HiMotion4 name is a statement of the hybrid electric/diesel technology we will soon see on a commercial car. The rear electric engine produces 50hp and 200Nm, and transmits power to the rear wheels, while the two litre diesel at 200hp transmits power to the front wheels.
When necessary, this enables all wheel drive, in addition to the EV function for zero emissions with the electric engine (about three km of autonomy at 50km/hr). The average consumption is about 4.5 litres per kilometre and CO2 emissions are at 120g/km. These are low figures considering it’s nearly five metres in length, 2.18 metres wide and 1.57 height, and 22 inch wheels.
Among the curiosities of this concept car are the four single seats, with ergonomic design and integrated massage, in an interior with steel and leather features (and colours - plenty of them). The dash is inspired by a diamond form that shows information across its various prisms. The car also indicates time through the colours on the computer and a pulsating button that reflects the heart of a living creature. It is a concept car after all…
