The Swedish edition of auto, motor und sport, has revealed that the Saab 9-X Air that will appear at the Paris motor show, is the direct parent of the next generation 9-3 Cabrio.

This next generation is yet to appear, but like the current model, it will include a cabrio version planned for 2011. No details have been revealed, but the 9-X Air will have an innovative “Canopy Top” that should give some reduction in weight compared to a conventional cabrio.

The technical specs should be the same as the BioHybrid seen in Geneva, with the 1.4 litre BioPower turbo at 200hp. When running on ethanol it consumes 6.5l/100km, while on petrol those figures are 5 l/100km. The electric engine has a lithium ion battery, a sequential transmission and Haldex all wheel drive like the current XWD on the 9-3.
