Hold on to your hats as in a couple of years we will see, emerging from the other side of the Alps, a sports car that comes all wrapped up with a special bow. To give you an idea it will be: an Alpine, RenaultSport and Nissan 370Z combo.
Think about it: Renault has an F1 team that while costs a load of money, doesn’t have, like Ferrari or McLaren-Mercedes, a direct return on the range or high performance models. Renault doesn’t have an all-round sports model, apart from the lovely RS.
And it won’t be turning heads with a Clio or a Megane, which is why, as revealed by RenaultSport director to CarTribe, the French have a plan in place: to revive the historic Alpine brand in the next two years, making it a kind of brother to the RS. But how will that work?
Simple: the RS will keep the Renault sports versions as they are, while the Alpine will have a line-up all of its own. The spontaneous question has been: “Will the Alpine emerge from the GT-R base?” But the answer is no.
Never fear, as the Alpine 2010 will still have an exquisite chassis, which should also be seen on the next Nissan 370 Z, heir to the current 350 which has so elegantly conquered motoring fans.
At this point plans for the sports versions from Nissan-Renault are as follows: the FM platform has given way to a comfortable, Infiniti branded coupè (the G37), and will generate a fun road vehicle from Nissan (the 370Z which we will see in L.A in November) and a pure, light version that will arrive in the form of the Alpine. We’ll have to wait to see how all this pans out.
