The new Hyundai Santa Fe unveiled in New York

posted by Adrian in: SUVs Crossover Hyundai

Hyundai Santa Fe

The new Hyundai Santa Fe has been officially unveiled at the New York international Auto Show. The third generation of the popular Korean SUV will then retain its classic moniker, dropping the anonymous ix45 name that was rumored to be the final choice. The ‘regular’ version of the model measures 4.69 meters in length, 1.88 in width and 1.68 in height with a wheelbase of 2.70 meters, while the Long Wheel Base variation (LWB) will have a 2.80 meters wheel base and gain 20 cm in length. Thereby, the new Hyundai Santa Fe is a little bit bigger than the model it is about to replace. It must be noticed though that these figures are the ones of the US version of the model, its European counterpart might end up being a little smaller.

The new Santa Fe will come in three versions: three versions: a five-passenger Santa Fe Sport, Santa Fe Sport 2.0T and the larger seven-passenger LWB Santa Fe. Standard equipment will include 7 airbags, panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, power seats, Blue Link infotainment, sat-nav and audio multimedia systems with an 8″ display.

The big hexagonal grill, its pair of mufflers and the 19″ burnished chrome alloys - as well as the overall line of the model - give it a well-defined personality. The engine range will be made of one petrol and two diesel units: a 2.0-liter turbocharged GDI engine developing 264 hp, a 2.4-litre direct injection (GDI) producing an estimated 190 hp, and - for the Long Wheel Base variant - a 3.3-litre GDI V6 engine delivering 290 hp. However, Hyundai did not release that many details on these engines.

New Volkswagen Tiguan will be offered in three body styles

posted by Elxwave in: Volkswagen SUVs Crossover Announcements

Volkswagen Tiguan restyling: nuove foto e dati ufficiali

The new Volkswagen Tiguan, expected in 2014, will be built using the benefits of the MQB platform and will be offered in three different body styles: in addition to the Sport Utility, which will retain the same size as the current model, there will also be an SUV-Coupe and a long wheelbase variant. The latter model is reported to be more than half a metre longer than the “standard” Tiguan and specifically designed for the American market.

To satisfy the needs of this important market, the extended-length crossover is expected to have the classic three-rows of seats. Although this version is an affordable alternative to the more expensive Touareg, its launch could create some financial risks to the Wolfsburg brand. Speculation suggests the Tiguan will mount TSI and TDI engines based on hybrid technology.

Fiat will launch 500X crossover at the end of 2014

posted by Elxwave in: Fiat SUVs Announcements

Fiat 500X crossover

The site AutomotiveNews has unraveled the fate of the two compact SUV branded Fiat and Jeep that will compete in what is considered the most dynamic and exciting segment of the entire market. The article focuses in particular on the Fiat variant, which will replace the Sedici and will be produced at the Mirafiori’s plant in Turin, from December 2013. Autonews reports that the trade name of this crossover will be 500X (the X stands for “cross”) and will be the fifth variant of the 500 range, currently consisting of the 500 3-door hatchback, 500 convertible, Abarth and the 500L 4-door hatchback. It will be the 500L to provide the mechanical structure along with the 0.9 Twinair and 1.4 four-cylinder petrol engines and 1.3 Multijet diesel, and of course its underpinnings: the 500X should reach 4.20m in length, making it the longest model of the 500 family. It will be offered with front and all-wheel-drive.

The Jeep sister model, aka B-SUV, will be featuring the stylistic elements of the brand, so it is safe to think of a radiator grille with classic vertical bars and a boxy, masculine look. Jeep technicians will not bring any changes under the hood, with the exception of specific suspensions and setup calibration. The all American B-SUV will be launched only at the end of 2014 and will be also produced at Mirafiori.

Range Rover Evoque Bollinger

At the 2012 Vinitaly - a wine fair taking place every year in Verona, Italy - Range Rover made a surprise appearance introducing the Evoque Bollinger. This particular and exclusive version of the popular Range Rover Evoque has been made with contribution coming from Aznom, and is dedicated to the famous Bollinger Champagne. The car, which sports a captivating red wine paintjob, is easily recognizable by the various logos of the wine-maker spread all around. Besides, in the trunk there are two special storage spaces with air-con that can accommodate up to 12 bottles of wine, sparkling white possibly.

In the near future the Evoque Bollinger will be at various locations following the Luxury Lounge, a 60 square meters motorhome created by the Meregalli Group (Bollinger’s official distributor for Italy). This traveling showroom will offer free wine samples to the attendants of several important events in that business, and the Evoque Bollinger will be there as ‘part of the package’. The model will then show up at the events linked to the Bollinger Club.

2013 Chevrolet Trailblazer to debut in Bangkok

posted by Adrian in: SUVs Announcements Chevrolet

Chevrolet Trailblazer

Chevrolet will show up at the 33rd Bangkok International Motor Show (March 26 - April 8 ) with the second generation of its successful Trailblazer SUV model, a car clearly inspired by the latest concept version of the model that was displayed in Dubai a few months back. The new Trailblazer uses the same platform of the Colorado pick-up truck and will come in both front- and all-wheel drive configurations. There will be two Duramax engine options: a 2.5-litre delivering 150 hp and 350 Nm of peak torque and a 2.8-litre producing 180 hp and 470 Nm. Both units can be mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed auto, but the latter would cut down the torque of the 2.8 engine down to 440 Nm.

The cabin of the new Trailblazer can accommodate up to 7 people - driver included - over three rows of seats, all of which can be folded in order to adjust the inner space according to the needs of the moment. Besides, if you fold the middle and rear benches, the rear sides will form a flat surface that can be used as the floor of a much wider loading area. General Motors points out that even the occupants of the last seats will have enough space to face long trips with maximum comfort. From a technical point of view, it is worth mentioning that the model uses a body-on-frame structure and 5-link suspension, while a number of safety and aid systems are available as part of the standard equipment or upon request (ESP, TCS, Panic Brake Assist and the new Dynamic Rear Brake Proportioning just to name a few). The new Chevy Trailblazer will not be imported in the US and will enter the Thai market in June.

2013 Audi Q6: spy shots

posted by Adrian in: Audi SUVs Spy shots

2013 Audi Q6 spy shots

Once again our photographers have spotted a mule of the next Audi Q6 hidden underneath the bodywork of a ‘regular’ Q5. The trick could have fooled the most shallow onlookers, but the different wheelbase and track of this prototype, caught on camera while doing some winter testing in Scandinavia, were just too bold to avoid being detected by the experienced eyes of our men in Scandinavia.

The aforementioned wider track and wheelbase will provide the next Q6 with more ‘presence’ in comparison to the Q5, with the new model getting positioned in Audi’s range between the Q5 itself (which measures 4.63 meters in length) and the Q7 (5.09 meters). Besides, the final design of the Q6 is expected to have a more coupe-like ’sporty feel’ to it, in the same fashion of the recent BMW X6.

However, even though the new Q6 is being developed on the same platform of the next Q5, it will not get into a direct, head-to-head competition with the aggressive sport utility vehicle from the Bavarian carmaker as it aims at a different, lower segment. The new Q6 is expected to debut toward the end of the year with an engine range made of turbocharged units only.
