One "seagull" does not a summer make: Mercedes Slc

Mercedes Slc

Take the rear of the Viper and add to it a threatening front, and what do you get? An attractive coupé, potentially enchanting, with an immortal inheritance. An oxymoron? Definitely.

A few days from the appearance of the “cousin” Sl Black Series, Mercedes is showing it hasn’t abandoned the Slc project (or for the nostalgic the Gullwing), following some road tests with the unusual bodywork.

Lamborghini Murcielago SV: noble pedigree

posted by Alison in: Lamborghini Super cars

Lamborghini Murcielago SV

In reading the numbers we’re asking ourselves what its limit is, or even if it has one. Coming from the parentage of the “SV”, this is a car with a pedigree capable of stirring emotions only talking about it. According to announcements from Autocar, the photographs are the best example that Lamborghini is continuing to develop its SV of the Murcielago, destined to give birth once again to the splendour of Miura and Diablo. We had already discussed this thanks to sightings from the Nurburging in May 2007, but silence following this had made us lose hope.

Nissan GT-R V-Spec: spy shots from Nürburgring

posted by Alison in: Coupe Nissan Super cars

gt-r v-spec

It has arrived on the Old Continent, even if only for the moment for some test runs on the ‘Ring. We’re referring to the Nissan GT-R V-Spec, definitive derivation on the GT-R theme and the most probable candidate for the supercar of the millennium, given the incredible base already established on the “normal” version.

The photographers from AutoExpress have immortalised the prototype at the entrance to “green hell”, already theatre to the incredible rounds done by the initial version. Now with a smile on our face, we’re wondering if the GT-R will be capable of humiliating the noble German supercars. Every point of reference might be casual but what will be the capabilities of this katana of a car?

The nasty black wheels and the stack of tyres already promise dark times for competitors and (like many readers passionate about supercars), we’re waiting to see the effects of the monstrous 550 hp (as foreseen).

Adieu Superleggera: production stopped for the Lamborghini Gallardo SL

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

“Rest In Peace”, Gallardo Superleggera. We unite in the memory, marking the end (perhaps even premature) of a superior coupé: Lamborghini has announced it will be closing down production of the Gallardo Superleggera, in preparation for the debut of the new LP560-4.

The 172 units manufactured have become cult objects, especially in the “untraceable” white colour, ordered by only ten customers. The other colours (34 grey, 37 black and 45 yellow) were dominated by orange with 46 cars, where some customers were happy with their own originality.

New photos of the Lamborghini Reventón

posted by Alison in: Lamborghini Super cars

Lamborghini Reventón

We pretty much know everything about the Lamborghini Reventón (in short - 650hp, 340 km/hr, 0-100km/hr in 3.4 seconds, all-wheel drive, E-gear shift and one million euro), but if anything was missing it was these lovely official photos that give a beautiful view of the Italian supercar.

Here is the Lamborghini press release that provides a gallery of new shots from the outside to the cabin, details and the Reventón in movement.

What to say: a sight for sore eyes!

No to a W16 Bentley

posted by Alison in: Bentley Super cars Bugatti

BentleyAt the Geneva show our Dutch colleagues at Auto Week tested the waters of the Bentley company but received a blunt “no to a Bentley Arnage W16″. Rumours of using a W16 Bugatti Veyron engine on the luxurious English sedan had been circulating for some time but the project now appears shelved indefinitely.

The denial of a similar prospect arrived from Franz-Josef Paefgen, CEO of Bentley Motors and Bugatti President, who added that regarding another supposed engine project, “adopting a diesel motor on a Bentley is still undecided”.

We’ll have to wait then for a few months and a different market survey to see whether a Bentley driven by a V12 TDI from Audi will ever exist.

The official video of the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560/4

posted by Alison in: Lamborghini Videos Super cars

Of sure effect is this first official video of the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560/4 that the company presented at the beginning of March in Geneva.

The images (which are truly beautiful and studied down to the last detail) are dominated by black and white with the whole package being accompanied by impressive audio. The video does nothing but to exalt the pureness of this splendid supercar’s line that has left us all in agreement on its unquestionable beauty.

Pagani renews collaboration with Mercedes-Benz

With a brief press release Pagani Automobili S.p.A has announced it will adopt a new engine developed in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG for the next model, possibly the C9 (taken here in a couple of videos).

The agreement has been signed by Volker Mornhinweg (AMG president) and Horacio Pagani, who have renewed the partnership initiated with the ambitious Zonda project.

“The excellent results obtained in recent years from Pagani Zonda and the handmade V12 have reinforced the relationship between the two brands proposing the passion, technology and performance at the top of the founding values.” Given the stratospheric Zonda, it’s spontaneous to ask what else we can expect in the near future from this top-notch alliance…

Will the engine of the Mercedes Sl Black Series be "strangled" to 680 hp?

posted by Alison in: Mercedes Spider Super cars

Some time ago we wrote about statements from AMG regarding the end of the war on power, with the explanation that future AMG cars with the CDI symbol would be manufactured with the environment in mind. It appears though that the possibility of explosive power is far too alluring to leave unexplored: and so AMG is proceeding in its development of the SL Black Series, perhaps the most powerful AMG ever.

According to reports of our favourite insider Auto Week, the new lethal weapon of the workshop will be powered with V12 6.0 already used on other 65 AMG: such an engine is capable of easily reaching 720 hp, even though the power would have to be regulated at 680 hp. The car has undergone a drastic “weight loss” (about 220 kg) using carbon fibre and more sporty components (brakes, fixed roof and an upgraded cooling system).

In addition, reports stated that the option of adding turbocharging technology combined with direct injection is being evaluated for the V8 6.3. “The increase in power,” as rumor-mongering had it, “would be limited though its presence would create ideal conditions for the adoption of direct injection.”
