Subaru will be featuring at the 2012 New York Auto Show (6th-15th April) with the restyled Legacy and Outback models, subject to an aesthetic upgrade. The front section gets a styling update similar to the one proposed by the new Impreza and benefits of some interventions to the front bumper, a more generous grille and new headlights. Inside we find enriched finishes, a multi-function 3.5 inch display and a redesigned dashboard plus a more sophisticated sound system equipped with Bluetooth, iPod and USB connectivity. Subaru technicians have also enhanced steering and suspension setup to improve comfort.

Under the hood is placed a new 2.5 litres four-cylinder boxer engine coupled to a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). It delivers 175 hp and 236 Nm of torque, 3 hp and 5 Nm more than the previous version. The engine range also includes a second boxer, a 3.6 litres with 260 hp. The technological equipment is also enhanced with a few safety systems: Eyesight Pre-Collision Braking, Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning and Active Cruise Control.

A new video starring the revamped Subaru XV has been relased by CarNews. The footage shows us the latest generation of the successful crossover model taking on with ease the snowy roads of the Hochsauerland region, in Germany, making the most out of its advanced four-wheel drive system.

The 2012 Subaru XV comes with a choice of two petrol and one diesel boxer engines: a 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol units and a 2.0 diesel powertrain specifically developed for the European market. All variants will be mated to a chain-driven CVT gearbox (Continuously Variable Transmission) which provides for more lightness, compactness, superior fuel efficiency and wide ratio coverage. Fuel efficiency has also been improved through the adoption of Subaru’s advanced new stop-start system, which uses a newly developed “change of mind control” function that can restart the engine within only 0.2 seconds from stopping.

As for the interior, the new XV uses high-quality leather, metal and fabrics, with a Multi-Function Display (MFD) that is placed in the upper middle section of the instrument panel. This device provides the driver with pop-up notifications about the continuous drive time, environmental factors such as outside air temperature or road surface conditions in the cold, and the status of the vehicle’s various systems.

Recently we have seen many pictures and videos of the Subaru BRZ and its twin sisters Toyota GT 86 and Scion FR-S, but Subaru has just uploaded an official 30 seconds long video in its youtube page featuring the actual sound of the BRZ, with the original exhaust system on. And we have to say that the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder boxer engine of new Subaru coupe (delivering 200 hp with 205 Nm of peak torque) does indeed sound great to our ears, and it could only get better with a proper sports exhaust system giving it that extra chunk. Here is a first high quality rendering of a possible Subaru BRZ Convertible, made by Theophilus Chin. In the wake of its official unveiling at the Tokyo Motor Show, quite a few CGI renderings of a similar BRZ have surfaced on the web, but we deem this as the best one of the lot. Obviously - and with very little imagination - we can use these pictures to figure out how possible convertible versions of Toyota GT 86 and Scion FR-S would look like as well.

Given the extremely low weight of the model(s), we would expect a soft top version of the BRZ to use a foldable roof made of fabric, which would not compromise too much balance and driving accuracy of the car. Well, it might end up being a little heavier than the hard top version, but it would allow drivers to enjoy the ride with the wind in their hair and to savour the lovely sound of the boxer engine even better.

During the past few weeks we have been showered with new images and pictures of the recently unveiled twin sisters Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BRZ (and then Scion FR-S as well). Now we have something quite different to show you: an official video starring Subaru BRZ GT300, the racing version of the BRZ that will take part to the 2012 Japanese SuperGT Championship.

No official technical details are currently available about the model, we just know that it won’t have more than 300 hp - as the rules of the series require -and that is likely to be way lighter than the 1,180 kg weight of the standard model. One thing we know for sure is that it looks and sounds great. We were already quite fond of the aesthetics of the ‘regular’ BRZ, we just hope than the wicked bodykit equipping the GT300 will inspire the Subaru guys to come up with a similarly looking production version of this awesome car in the future.

A new 3-minute long official video starring the new Subaru BRZ have surfaced on the internet. This high quality footage provides us with an extensive overlook of the model, showing us many significant video of both the interior and the exterior of the brand new front-engine rear-wheel-drive coupe from the Japanese manufacturer that has been unveiled just a few hours ago at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The model uses an extremely low centre of gravity which, jointly with its rather light weight, makes it a pretty enjoyable and precise driving experience. The car is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder boxer unit (delivering 200 hp with 205 Nm of peak torque) with D4-S direct injection mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. As previously reported, the car has been developed on the same platform that generated the recent Toyota GT 86 and the upcoming Scion FR-S, sharing chassis and engine with its two twin sisters.

Even though the undisputed stars of the booth are the new BRZ and Advanced Tourer Concept, Subaru also introduced the new Impreza at the Tokyo Motor Show showcasing the two most significant models of the new range: the Impreza G4 and the Impreza Sport. The former is the model that is going to sit at the top of the sedan range, whereas the latter will have the same role for the hatchback line. Both Impreza G4 and Sport will be powered by the recent 2.0-litre 4 cylinder boxer unit producing 154 hp at 6,200 rpm, while a 1.6-litre engine will also be made available. Both engines will boast a good fuel consumption and will be coupled to the latest version of Subaru’s continuously variable transmission. The two aforementioned models are hardly recognizable from the ‘regular’ versions, although they will come with a different front grille and a set of 17″ alloys. The new range is expected to appear in Europe in mid-2012.

Subaru introduces the Advanced Tourer Concept at the 2011 Tokyo motor Show. The model is basically an evolution of the previous Hybrid Tourer Concept, presented in 2009, which laid the foundations for the design style currently adopted by the Japanese carmaker.

Subaru Advanced Tourer Concept was developed as a new-generation sports wagon providing both superior driving performance and utility. It features an innovative exterior design not found in conventional wagon model which uses a quite impactful and massive front grille and a dynamic but sleek look that is quite reminiscent of some modern-day coupe model. Headlights uses LED technology exclusively and features many details made of carbon fibre, such as the rear diffuser.

The Advanced Tourer Concept is equipped with an horizontally-opposed 1.6-litre 4 cylinder boxer engine with direct fuel injection and a not better specified electric unit, whose power will be transferred to all four wheels through Subaru’s Lineatronic continuously variable transmission. As for the interior, a large monitor is built into the steering wheel allowing access to maps, television and internet services. Textures such as wood and metal are incorporated into the inside layout to produce ample ambiance, while a roof entirely made of glass adds to the spacious feel.

The long-awaited Subaru BRZ is about to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, prompting the Japanese carmaker to release more official pictures and technical details of the new model. The car will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder boxer engine with D4-S direct injection delivering 200 hp with 205 Nm of peak torque. The BRZ weights only 1220 kg and boost an extremely low center of gravity, features that will allow for a super precise and exciting drive, bringing to the table a quicker and more accurate steering response as well as better grip. However, the car still allows for 2+2 seating and a trunk with sufficient space, meaning that the BRZ can be a sport car as well as a reliable companion for long tours.

The power generated by the front-mounted engine will be transmitted to the rear axle through either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The latter also has a “S mode” for better shifting response and “M mode” for optional shifting. Besides, thanks to paddle shifters and down-shifting blipping control, the BRZ can respond faithfully to the driver’s inputs. The car uses lightweight and highly rigid aluminum wheels fitted with 215/45R17 tyres.

Sabaru releases the first official images of the upcoming BRZ model, developed on the same platform as the recently unveiled Toyota GT 86. These pictures gives us the chance to better focus on the differences between the two models and, as predicted, there aren’t many to speak of: there is a different front grille (the BRZ’s one got an hexagonal shape), the lower part of the front bumper has a different design, and that’s basically it.

No images of the interior of the BRZ have been released, but it is expected to be almost identical to its Toyota-badged twin sister anyway. The models will also share the same 2.0-litre boxer petrol engine with direct injection delivering 200 hp and 205 Nm, in charge of pushing these 1200 kg cars. A third twin sister, Scion FR-S, will also join the fold at a later time.

The latest evolution of the famous Subaru Impreza WRX, the S206, will be officially unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in just a few days, and it is likely to be the last version ever of a model that is approaching the end of its commercial life. The Impreza WRX STi S206 will be produced in 200 ’standard’ units plus 100 models equipped with the NBR Challenge package, all of which have already been sold.

In comparison to the ‘regular’ Impreza WRX, the STi S206 features a slightly different bodywork and an upgraded version of the standard 2.0 boxer engine, which boosts the output of the car from 300 hp/407 Nm up to 320 hp/431 Nm. This improvement is mainly due to the new turbocharger, the re-calibrated ECU and some re-designed parts of the engine itself, namely crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods.

The model also uses 19″ alloys fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sports performance tyres (size 245/35 on both axles), braking system by Brembo and Alcantara racing seats. The aforementioned NBR Challenge package tops it all up with roof and huge rear wing made of carbon fibre, 19″ super-light alloy wheels courtesy of BBS and some Nurburgring decal.

Saburu will present an evolution of Impreza WRX STi at the next Tokyo Motor Show (December 3-11), which will be produced in 300 units that will be available in Japan only. As the name suggests, the S206 belongs to Subaru’s ‘S’ family - following S202, S203, S204 and R205 (S205) models - and will be equipped with an upgraded version of the supercharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine delivering 320 hp and 431 Nm of peak torque, meaning 20 hp and 24 Nm more than the standard unit. This result was achieved through the addition of a re-designed turbocharger, a re-calibrated ECU and a new exhaust system.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi S206 employs exclusive Bilstein shock absorbers, STi coil springs plus flexible tower bar and draw stiffener on the front. The model also uses 19″ alloy wheels courtesy of BBS fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Aesthetically, the S206 is characterized by a new splitter and the re-designed front bumper and grille while rear spoiler and carbon fibre roof can be added with the NBR Challenge Package. Inside there are Recaro sports seats, Alcantara finishing, silver side sill plate with S206 logo, leather steering wheel and shift knob with STi logo and serial number plate on the console.
