These pics of the new Mercedes E-Class cabriolet version have escaped to the net ten days before the official E-Class debut. As we’ve already seen the new E-Class cabrio will be equipped with the new AirCap and AirScarf system in time for the summer months, although a little trial in early spring on the part of customers may have been nice (just think of that first spring sun, driving around with the top down and your air scarf on).
The AirScarf is ’simply’ a system of warm air flow through the car for the occupants, while the AirCar has both a comfort and driving function. It has specific aerodynamic impact, and being raised, the wind can be deflected a full 20 cm higher for the comfort of all passengers, including those in the back seat.
Plenty of comfort features are included in this luxury cabriolet, in addition to the nifty AirCap micro climate tool. The soft top closes within 20 seconds up to speeds of 40 km/hr and has a thickness of 23.5 mm for both sound and temperature proof protection. This makes the E-Class Cabriolet a good mid-season open top, too. The engine range takes on most of the options available with the E-Class coupe with the E 200 CGI 1.8-litre turbo (184 hp) and the E 250 CGI 5.5-litre V8 (388 hp). The diesel line-up includes three options: 2.1-litre E 220 CDI with 170 hp, the 2.1-litre E 250 CDI with 204 hp, and the 3.0-litre V6 E 350 CDI with 231 hp.
The Mercedes F800 Style Concept Car will appear at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show as the company prepares its coupe-sedan design for the replacement of the Mercedes CLC. I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting something quite so sexy from Mercedes, but the F800 Style is not just about what its name suggests.
The concept car is 474 cm long which suggests it might adopt the A-Class and B-Class platform, which will also be used on the Mercedes SUV range, previously known as BLK. The F800 Style is also 194 cm wide, 144 cm high and has a boot capacity of 440 litres. The car is equipped with a traditional hybrid drivetrain with a V6 engine with 300 hp and an electric motor with lithium ion batteries for another 109 hp.
Emissions measure 68 grams of CO2 per kilometre and fuel consumption is just 2.9 litres for every 100 km. The F800 Style has plenty of speed though, accelerating to 100 km/hr in 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/hr. It has a seven-speed, semi-automatic transmission also used on the Mercedes S-Class hybrid, and can also be equipped with a combustion fuel cell system for zero emissions.

This Lorinser Mercedes E-Class coupe tuning manages to be both aggressive and elegant at the same time. There is a focus on new aerodynamics for the E-Class coupe wtih front bumpers, larger side skirts and a rear spoiler with diffuser. Other features include LED day driving lights and a new exhaust system with four pipes.
Lorinser has also added a small spoiler on the roof of the E-Class coupe, although the most noticeable thing at the front is perhaps the lack of the Mercedes badge on the front. The Lorinser E-Class coupe has wheels that can measure up to 20 inches and a sports suspension lowered by 30 mm. There’s no word on the engine tuning yet, but we think something will turn up.
The Mercedes Benz fashion week presents the SLS AMG and supermodel Julia Stegner, together for a photo shoot with a futuristic touch. A tad like Star Trek’s gone beserk for me, this is described as “cutting edge” work from the photographer Nick Knight. The SLS AMG is certainly of perfect enigmatic style to be used in this avant garde piece, and whether you like it or not, you’ve got to admit the final effect is dramatic. Julia Stegner discusses the work in a video after the jump.

These spy shots of the Mercedes SL show the next generation which will turn up in only 2012. But testing has already been underway for the new Mercedes spider, which should be getting a complete overhaul. The Mercedes SL is still covered in very heavy camouflage, meaning we can’t get an accurate idea of how it will look.
According to some reports, both the Mercedes SL and SLK will inherit some of the design features from the classic Mercedes SLS, but we can’t verify that with these shots. However, we do get some tantalising technical information: the new SL should be wider and lower than the current model, gaining some improvements in aerodynamics and drive style.
It will have a totally new spaceframe chassis, and will have a specialist suspension system with an aluminium double triangle both at the front and rear. We should also see an exciting new engine range with new V6 and V8 units, both aspirated and turbo models, with CGI direct injection. Both performance and fuel consumption should be improved, and eventually we should also see a Mercedes SL hybrid version with lithium ion batteries.

The Mercedes CLS Rising Car sculpture seen in these pics from Detroit, will be shown as a real concept car at the 2010 Geneva motor show in March. The new CLS sedan design will be previewed, with the car itself debuting at the end of this year.
It will be the first Mercedes to show design boss Gordon Wagener’s new design philosophy, which will also include a new identity for the Mercedes front end, based on the grille of the 300 SL. In the future there will be less variation across the range in the front end, which will become more corporate.
As already suspected, the new CLS will include a shooting brake style, rather than a station wagon model, as some rumours have suggested. Wagener is aiming for the “most beautiful cars in the world” and has said that a shooting brake would be the most stunning car in its sector, we should think in direct competition with Audi’s sportback style.

Whoever produced this video of the Mercedes SLS AMG should go into action film production, if they aren’t already. The SLS AMG finds itself in a stunt of looping the inside of a tunnel at high speed through the down force generated (thanks to a whole lot of computer graphics but I’ll believe it’s capable anyway). My favourite part, though, is at the end, when the stationary car suddenly flips its Gullwing doors open. Lovely.
The guys from Motor Trend love their Cadillac CTS-V. The American sports sedan has 556 hp and 750 Nm of torque, and has already beaten the BMW M5 and the new Jaguar XFR in two previous challenges from Motor Trend. This time, though, they’re trying it against the Mercedes E 63 AMG sports sedan offering.
The Mercedes has 525 hp and 630 Nm of torque, but performance between the two is very close with the Cadillac making it to 100 km/hr in 4.5 seconds and with a top speed of 308 km/hr. The E 63 has a top speed of 300 km/hr but is slightly faster in the sprint to 100 km/hr, completing it in 4.2 seconds.
The E 63 is equipped with some impressive Mercedes/AMG technology, with a 6.2-litre V8 engine and super-fast seven speed paddle shift which has a sports mode option (this might also explain the 40,000 euros more on the price tag). It’s clear the Americans love their Cadillac CTS-V, but this time Mercedes might just have the edge.
The Mercedes SLS AMG Desert Gold edition was presented at the Dubai motor show, and here is the video of the car, along with pics from the show. The SLS AMG gold tint version could possibly be included as a permanent colour for the Middle East market, with the option appearing as part of the AMG Performance Studio exclusive personalisation program.
The external Desert Gold look is contrasted with a black carbon fibre finish interior, while the engine remains unchanged. The Middle East is Mercedes’ fourth largest market, and so the Dubai motor show also featured a preview of the new Mercedes E-Class cabriolet. Check out the SLS AMG Desert Gold in the pics.

The new Mercedes E-Class cabrio would hardly be my vehicle of choice for the winter season, but here are some more pics of the E-Class cabriolet on snow. A situation like this would probably be one in which you would use the Airscarf warm air flow technology, if you want to enjoy the panorama with the roof down.
For more details on the new member of the E-Class family, see the E-Class cabrio videos, and the first E-Class cabrio official gallery. If you want an idea as to some of the best cars for the snow, try the various AWD models out there and remember - it doesn’t have to be an SUV.
