Carscoop released the first images of a brand new sedan from Infiniti, dubbed LE Pure-Electric Concept. The model should be making its debut at the 2012 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (April 23 - May 2). This car retrieves some elements from the Emerg-E concept and anticipates an all-electric saloon model that will be developed on the same platform of the Nissan LEAF. The definitive production-version of the car is scheduled to enter the market at some point in 2013.

The new generation of the Infiniti G is expected to surface in 2014, and here is a bunch of spy shots of one of the first prototypes. This mule uses the same bodywork of the current model which has been slightly modified in order the suit the technical changes of the next ‘G’.

These images come from Northern Sweden, and show us a car with a wider track and new air inlets on the front end, which can be spotted below the grille. These new intakes would have us believe that there’s a quite performing petrol powertrain hidden underneath the old dress as our photographers confirm that the sound of this car was definitely not the one of a diesel engine.

Besides, it is reported that this mule was coming in and out of a well known Mercedes facility, a clue that gives strength to the rumors that the next Infiniti G will use some engine developed by the German carmaker. It is known that the partnership agreement between Mercedes-Benz and Renault also includes the Infiniti brand, implying that Infinity will be using powerplants coming from the house of the three-pointed star in the next generation. However, we thought that it was mostly about diesel units, which Mercedes is especially famous for.

One of the most sought-after models at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show is definitely this hot Emerg-E prototype from Infiniti, which is supposedly an anticipation of a future extreme sportscar. This fascinating model is based on the Lotus Evora but has a longer wheelbase and measures 4.64 meters in lenght, 1.95 in width and 1.22 in height, and boasts a Cd of just 0.34. Power comes from a couple of electric motors feeded by a li-ion battery pack and four invereters, while a traditional 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine delivering 47 hp and 107 Nm is used as a mere range extender.

Built around an advanced aluminum bodyshell, the Emerg-E also uses carbon fibre fairings to achieve 1,598 kg of kurb weight. The two electric motors - one for each wheel of the rear axle - generate a total power of 402 hp, with an impressive 1,000 Nm of torque, allowing the Emerge-E to cover the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.1 seconds, hitting its 210 km/h (130 mph) of top speed within 30 seconds.

The model uses a single-speed open-differential transmission developed by Xtrac, and its battery pack can be recharged in 10 hours through a 13 A system. The Infiniti Emerg-E is production-ready, but apparently the bosses of Nissan’s luxury brand would like to see what sort of reaction the model will receive in Geneva before making a decision on how to proceed. However, in the case the car will enter the market in its current configuration, its price is expected to be higher than 150,000 € (rougly 200,000 € / 125,000 $).

INFINITI EMERG-E: AN ELECTRIFYING NEW TAKE ON THE SPORTS CAR

The INFINITI EMERG-E Concept, which makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2012, is a highly advanced mid-ship sports car that provides an exciting glimpse into Infiniti’s future.

INFINITI EMERG-E is physical proof of Infiniti’s intension to produce a bold halo model befitting the brand’s promise of Inspired Performance, and also signals an array of exciting new technologies that the brand will adopt in its quest to build dramatic and sustainable high performance cars. INFINITI EMERG-E also provides a fresh expression of Infiniti’s design language applied to a high performance, mid-ship sports car for the first time.

INFINITI EMERG-E is also significant for being the first Infiniti that has been developed in Europe. More than that, its advanced technology deliberately draws on the knowledge of suppliers beyond Infiniti’s usual base in the quest to uncover the most innovative hardware and the deepest knowledge base. That quest has seen Infiniti become a part of the UK government’s Technology Strategy Board initiative, whose aim is to speed the arrival of low carbon vehicles to our roads.

INFINITI EMERG-E is the ultimate expression of Infiniti’s inspired performance. This 402bhp (300kW) mid-engined, twin motor, electric motors powered sports car is capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in just four seconds - and from zero to 130mph in a single, seamless 30 second burst. Yet it also operates as exciting, zero emission urban transport over a 30-mile range. And when the range-extender petrol engine functions in concert with its twin electric motors, it produces a CO2 output of only 55g/km (NEDC cycle).

Within its compact 4.464m length the two-seater INFINITI EMERG-E contains a pair of electric motors, a lithium-ion battery pack, four inverters, a three-cylinder range-extending internal combustion engine and a petrol tank. All this is efficiently wrapped within highly aerodynamic, light bodywork characterised by a design fluency that could only come from Infiniti.

Infiniti describes it as the “fastest accelerating full hybrid” car currently available on the market, and the nice people from the Guinness Book Of Records have now put that down on paper too, so here is a video issued by the Japanese carmaker that celebrates the accomplishment. We are talking about the M35h which, relying on electric power alone, registered a 0-100 mph (161 km/h) sprint time of 11.54 seconds, covering the quarter mile (402 meters) in 13.41 seconds. Apparently, these figures were enough to rank the M35h at the top of the hybrid world, even better than the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid, which is credited with a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 6 seconds flat.

The Infiniti M35h is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 producing 306 hp that, combined with a 68 hp electric motor, provides an output of 364 hp. The Porsche Panamera S Hybrid instead comes with a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 delivering 333 hp that, combined with the electric package, produces a total output of 333 hp.

Japanese firm Wald International presents a tuning program for Infiniti G37 sedan, a model which is known in Japan as Nissan Skyline. The package is called Sports Line Black Bison Edition and consists almost entirely of aesthetic upgrades: a new front bumper with incorporated LED day light strips, side skirts, a rear bumper with integrated diffuser, blacked out front grille and logos and a double edged boot lid spoiler. In addition, Wald International also offers a wide choice of alloy wheels in sizes up to 20″ (you will see a few of them in the photo gallery) as well as a sports suspension kit and a new exhaust system with four mufflers.

More details about the upcoming Infiniti model that will enter the C-segment market have emerged. The new car will be developed on Mercedes’s MFA platform and will be targeting Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series as its main competitors. Website Automotive News reports that the car will be assembled in Graz, Austria, at the Magna Steyr plant, with a planned output of 50-60,000 units per year. The same website reveals that the car will be equipped with four different engines, both diesel and petrol, with 4 or 6 cylinders, all of which will be supplied by Mercedes-Benz. From a strategic point of view, this new model will be very important for the Japanese carmaker, which is aiming to achieve a global output of 500,000 cars per year by 2017.

Pictured above is the Infiniti Etherea Concept, introduced at the last Geneva Motor Show, a model that should anticipate the design of this new car. This concept shares the same chassis with both Mercedes A-Class and B-Class, and it is believed that the new model will also borrow many components from these two cars in an attempt to keep the costs down.

Infiniti released a 4 minutes-long official video starring its new SUV model, the JX, recently unveiled at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. The footage shows us many details of the new car which, as for now, will be available in the US market only. Infinity Jx is powered by a 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engine producing 265 hp at 6,400 rpm and 336 Nm (248 lb-ft) of torque coupled with an automatic 6-speed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), transferring the power to either the front axle or both of them through the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system.

Infiniti introduces the JX, a new 7-passenger mid-size luxury crossover/SUV inspired by the Essence prototype and very similar to the last JX Concept showcased in Pebble Beach last August. The model is equipped with a 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engine delivering 265 hp at 6,400 rpm and 336 Nm (248 lb-ft) of peak torque from 4,400 rpm. This unit is mated to a 6-speed automatic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that transfers the power to either the front wheels or to all four of them through the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system.

Infiniti JX is equipped with all sorts of accessories that you would expect in a modern day luxury SUV, meaning adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, a Bose Cabin Surround system with 15 speakers, Infiniti Connection infotainment system, Around View Monitor (which offers a virtual 360-degree image of the area around the JX), Blind Spot Warning (BSW) system and the innovative Backup Collision Intervention system, that warns the driver if another vehicle is crossing his path and could also apply the brakes to help avoid collision if the driver doesn’t react in time.

Infiniti says that the JX is the segment leader in terms of overall passenger volume and rear cargo volume (pointing out that the JX boasts more legroom than Cadillac Escalade). The model actually presents a quite large passenger compartment with 3 rows of seats that can be folded and adjusted in many different ways. The car comes with standard 18″ 5-spoke aluminum alloys, although 20″ split 5-spoke aluminum and polished forged aluminum-alloys are also available. The model is currently on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show and will enter the US market in 2012. At the moment it is not clear whether Nissan will bring the JX to Europe as well.

Infiniti ha presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show the new IPL G Convertible, an even more performing version of the already impressive G37 that will enter the market in Spring 2012. For those of you who don’t know about it, IPL (Infiniti Performance Line) is the acronym that the Japanese brand uses for its most sporty models since 2010 , in the same fashion as Mercedes and AMG, Audi and RS, BMW and M. Or at least this is what Nissan’s luxury brand would like it to be. Infiniti already released a G Coupe model graced with the IPL badge last December, and this convertible version will be just the second production model to get it.

Infiniti IPL G Convertible uses a 3.7-liter V6 with an output of 343 hp (256 kW) and 370 Nm (276 lb-ft) of peak torque mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission with a quick-shift Sport drive mode, adaptive shift control and paddle shifters. Wheels are IPL 19″ 7-spoke graphite-finish rims fitted with Bridgestone Potenza performance tires. In comparison to the standard G37, Infiniti has also added larger brakes, changed the exhaust system, re-calibrated the software, replaced the front bumper with a new one featuring integrated fog lights and added sculpted side sills. Infiniti will present the final version of both JX and IPL G Convertible models at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show (November 18-27).

Infiniti JX is a SUV that was first presented as a concept in Pebble Beach. It will be powered by a V6 petrol engine with CVT and has expressly been built for the American market. As for now, there are no plans for a possible arrival in Europe.

The IPL G Convertible is a more sporty version of the G Cabriolet developed by Infiniti Performance Line, and will benefit from both mechanical and setting modifications that will have the ‘regular’ 3.7 litres V6 engine deliver 338 hp. Aerodynamics and interior will be upgraded too. More details about both cars are expected to surface in LA.

The wait for the Infiniti Essence is finally over, as the much-anticipated concept car to celebrate 20 years of Nissan’s luxury brand, has been presented at the 2009 Geneva motor show. The figures of this car are enviable: a two-seater hybrid coupè with 600hp, rear wheel drive and 4.7 metres in length to follow the new “Dynamic Adeyaka” philosophy.

The muscular exterior contrasts with the minimalist interior and twin colour design: black for the driver’s side and red for the passenger’s. The engine is a V6, 3.7L with twin turbo compressors to reach 440hp. This is combined with an electric motor at 160hp, that can function independently, achieving zero emissions.

Figures are estimated at about 190 g/km of average fuel consumption (8l/100km), despite the 600hp. Safety features include the Safety Shield, Distance Control Assistant and Back-up Collision Prevention.

Infiniti, the luxury Nissan brand that will debut in Europe in October, has launched a booking list on the internet in response to the large scale request from the public.

The list can be found on the official Infiniti Europe site where you can easily sign up and put yourself on the list. According to Bastien Schupp, CEO of the European division, the response has been beyond expectation, with calculations that it has reached about 10,000 requests on the continent.

The first markets to have official showrooms will include France, Italy and Spain, along with others. Another six countries will follow in January 2009, and finally in April the last six with Germany and Great Britain on board.
