The production of the Dodge Dart, American saloon based on the same platform of Alfa Romeo Giulietta, has started. The video released by Chrysler shows the first model out of the assembly line at its Belvidere’s plant in Illinois. The population of this area is particularly grateful to Fiat, because without Dart the factory would have risked closure.

In the States there are great expectations for this promising car, which is already seen as a commercial success, thanks to its 1.4-litre turbo engine of Italian origins, although many would like to see a sportier version, maybe with larger wheels, side skirts and a 2.4-litre engine. The price of the base model is $ 15,995 and it will be launched in five trim levels. The car will be available in showrooms from next month.

The ongoing 2012 New York International Auto Show saw the launch of the new Ram 1500, one of the most popular pick-up truck in the US. Just like its predecessor, the new Ram is extremely versatile and can be used for commercial purposes, road use, off-road and so on, and is powered by a 3.6-litre V6 Pentastar engine which is credited with an output of 305 hp and 364 Nm of peak torque. This unit is coupled to a 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission that replace the frankly obsolete 4-speed automatic gearbox of the outgoing generation.

A 395 hp 5.7-litre V8 Hemi engine coupled with the same transmission will also become available at a later time. One pretty interesting feature of the new gearbox is that it is controlled by a knob placed nearby the clima controls. The fuel consumption figures have improved as well thanks to such systems as the Aero Modem which lowers the body of the car while traveling on the motorway to the benefit of its aerodynamic penetration.

The new Ram 1500 comes with a completely adjustable pneumatic suspension and uses 5 different set-ups: Normal, Aero, Off-Road 1, Off-Road 2 and Park. The overall weight of the vehicle has also gone down thanks in most part to the large use of aluminum and high-resistance steel. Quite obviously, the aesthetics of the model have been slightly revised too, but the classic, imposing look of the Ram is definitely still there. The cabin is now more modern and comfortable and uses a cool Uconnect info-tainment system with an 8.4″ screen placed in the middle of the console. POWERTRAIN
The new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine (Ward’s 10 Best Engines Award two years in a row) with
variable-valve timing (VVT) offers best-in-class standard 305 horsepower, with 269 lb.-ft. of torque and best-in-class fuel economy for V-6 trucks. New V-6 features 42 percent more horsepower, 13 percent more torque and at least 20 percent better fuel economy when compared to the previous 3.7-liter V-6 powertrain.

The legendary 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 with fuel-saving cylinder shut-off and VVT provides 395
horsepower, 407 lb.-ft. of torque and best-in-class fuel economy for V-8 trucks (at least 20 percent better fuel economy when compared to 2012 V-8 powertrain). Also, the HEMI delivers best-in-class towing and payload – 11,500 pounds and 3,125 pounds respectively, with Ram 1500 Tradesman Heavy Duty.

The class-exclusive eight-speed automatic transmission (TorqueFlite 8 ), standard equipment with 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastar, doubles the amount of gears compared to previously available four-speed automatic transmission, which improves drivability and enhances fuel efficiency. The new eight-speed also is available with the 5.7-liter V-8 HEMI – the Company’s first application with a V-8 (TorqueFlite 8 with V-8 is late availability). The exclusive new transmission is operated by an innovative, dashmounted rotary e-shift dial, which enables quick blind-shift transitions from “Reverse” to “Drive” when towing or navigating out of mud, snow or busy parking lots.

Owners will appreciate an innovative rotary e-shift dial for trucks equipped with the new TorqueFlite 8-speed transmission that replaces both column and floor shifters. The exclusive rotary e-shift enables intuitive operation with a direct and confident feel, even with gloves on. The convenient, dashmounted, easy-to-understand and operate system provides total control of the sophisticated eightspeed transmission and is Ram Truck’s innovative approach to electronic shifters, already used in Class 6-8 trucks. This new design allows quick blind-shift transitions from “Reverse” to “Drive” when towing or navigating out of mud, snow or busy parking lots and crowded worksites. The new rotary eshift dial also yields space for more functional and usable storage in the console.

Another segment exclusive with the eight-speed transmission is a new thermal management system that is designed to quickly raise engine and transmission fluid temperatures. By raising fluid temperatures, parasitic losses resulting from high-viscosity engine oil and transmission fluid can be reduced, improving fuel efficiency by 1.7 percent. As the engine temperature increases to predetermined levels, warm engine coolant is circulated through a thermal exchange unit, which also contains dedicated pathways for transmission fluid. As the thermal exchange unit heats up, it also heats up the transmission fluid. This action dramatically reduces warm up time for the transmission, improving fuel economy, drivability and shift quality. In most powertrain configurations, the transmission heats up independently of the engine, delaying warm-up time and reducing efficiency. Adding to industry firsts in a pickup truck is the application of stop-start, another fuel saving feature available on select 2013 Ram 1500 models. This new system improves fuel economy by up to 3.3 percent, an increase of about one mile-per-gallon to the truck’s city drive cycle.

Stop-start increases fuel efficiency by shutting the engine off when the truck comes to a complete stop. Amenities (radio, gauges, heating or air conditioning, etc.) continue to operate, making the operation transparent to the driver. The engine restarts automatically when the driver releases the brake, allowing seamless acceleration.

Enabling components have been upgraded for heavy-duty operation on models equipped with the stop-start feature.

ENGINEERING
Although the new 2013 Ram 1500 boasts numerous segment-exclusive features, many aren’t readily visible, but deliver best-in-class fuel efficiency, ride and handling.

Aerodynamics
The new 2013 Ram 1500 continues to maintain its ruggedly handsome appearance with new exterior design elements. Extensive wind-tunnel testing honed the 2013 Ram 1500 exterior shape, resulting in continued best-in-class aerodynamics. Also, the cooperative application of active aerodynamics and modern styling led to a six percent aerodynamic improvement on the new truck. The 2013 Ram 1500 Regular Cab 4×2 coefficient of drag (Cd) is .363 – compared with a Cd of .386 for a 2012 Ram 1500 Regular Cab 4×2.

Air Suspension
Best-in-class ride and handling gets even better. The 2013 Ram 1500 is now available with an all-new air suspension system featuring five height settings for optimum ride and aerodynamic performance.

The feature operates automatically, or may be controlled manually via console or key fob controls:
Normal Ride Height (NRH): 8.7 inches of clearance (measured from the base of the door sill)
is the default, load-leveled ride height
Aero Mode: Lowers the vehicle 1.1 inches from NRH. Aero Mode improves fuel efficiency by
up to one percent and is activated by vehicle speed, adjusting for optimal performance and fuel
economy

Off-road 1: Lifts the truck 1.2 inches from NRH for added height in clearing obstacles
Off-road 2: Delivers more off-road capability, increasing ground clearance by 2 inches over

NRH
Park Mode: Lowers the vehicle 2 inches from NRH for easy ingress/egress and cargo loading
The new air suspension system adds up to 4 inches of lift span, offering best-in-class step-in height of 21 inches, best-in-class ground clearance of 10.7 inches, best-in-class departure angle of 27.8 degrees, and best-in-class breakover angle of 24.2 degrees supported by four-corner air springs that provide a cushioned, premium ride.

Another benefit to the new air suspension is load-leveling capability, which automatically detects load on the suspension from a trailer or payload. The air pressure increases until the vehicle reaches normal ride height, leveling the truck and improving the loaded ride.
Additionally, a separate button on the key fob gives the operator the ability to manually lower the truck, allowing for ease of passenger entry and reduced tailgate lift-over height.

Electric Power Steering
The 2013 Ram 1500 features electric power steering (EPS). By using an electric motor to power the truck’s rack and pinion steering system, the engine is relieved from the task of constantly turning a hydraulic pump, improving fuel efficiency up to 1.8 percent and adding five horsepower. Also, the introduction of EPS reduces complexity by removing the previous hydraulic pump, high-pressure hydraulic hoses and cooling apparatus.

Weight Reduction
Weight reduction is an important variable in the fuel economy equation. Reducing the weight of
components improves fuel economy and allows for more content without affecting payload or towing capability.

A newly redesigned frame benefits from a weight reduction of up to 30 pounds by using advanced high-strength steels. Also benefitting from advanced metal, new box floor cross-members in the bed eliminates seven pounds and a new front bumper design removes four pounds. Additionally, aluminum upper and lower control arms in the front suspension contribute to additional weight reduction and handling. The Ram 1500 also features an aluminum hood saving 26 pounds.

Underneath the hood, the combination of the new Pentastar V-6 and new TorqueFlite 8 transmission reduces the weight by approximately 76 pounds. The V-8 and TorqueFlite 8 together reduce weight by more than 30 pounds.

The weight reductions not only allow for more convenience, comfort and entertainment features but also best-in-class fuel saving technology such as thermal management, stop-start and active aerodynamics.

Pulse-width Modulation
Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is a new fuel-saving technology for the Ram 1500, which reduces
parasitic electrical load. The technology not only eliminates unnecessary load on the alternator but also improves the durability of benefitting systems. Fuel delivery and the forward cooling fan are two systems that take advantage of PWM, adding a 0.4 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.

Low rolling-resistance Tires
The 2013 Ram 1500 features standard low rolling-resistance tires to minimize wasted energy and
decrease required rolling effort. Tread patterns, advanced materials and millions of miles of testing result in greater fuel efficiency.

Chassis
The 2013 Ram 1500 uses a newly designed frame with improved, low torsion (stiffness) attributes that increase stability and handling precision while decreasing noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) up to 30 percent, depending on drive cycle. Front rails feature 20 percent increased yield strength from the use of high-strength steel. Among other features, the new frame design incorporates a new powertrain, new air suspension and new body-mounting technology.

Portions of the frame are hydroformed for dimensional accuracy (hydroforming reduces the amount of welding that leads to distortion), and side rails are fully boxed. The front frame section incorporatesadvanced, high-strength steel that maintains overall strength and durability while saving approximately 30 pounds. To further improve NVH, new larger body mounts are located on the front frame rails and at the C-pillar.

New standard front independent suspension combines new aluminum upper control arms and retuned geometry with coil springs for improved responsiveness and handling. New, more robust ball joints on the front suspension yield greater durability and are engineered with improved sealing methods.

DESIGN
The new 2013 Ram 1500 retains its ruggedly handsome appearance with all-new interior and exterior design aesthetics, improved aerodynamics and all-new, segment-leading technology – and every Ram 1500 truck benefits from new content specifically designed to match each model’s unique style.

Exterior
Ram Truck brand designers started with the Ram grille making it not only larger – with the same
overall width, but approximately one inch taller – “saddled” within the new upper fascia panel for a more integrated appearance. The classic Ram crosshair horizontal and vertical grille bars are now flush at the top and bottom of the grille surround.

The new front bumper design supports the “saddled” Ram grille theme with new vertically oriented fog lamps for improved light spread, distance and more lumens. Larger openings around the front tow hooks (four-wheel drive models) allow for easy access to the hooks.
The 2013 Ram 1500 quad headlamp design has improved light spread, pattern consistency, distance and 30 percent more lumens. An all-new premium headlamp lighting system is a bi-functional halogen projector design with 15 amber LEDs for park/turn/position lamp and three amber LEDs for the side marker.

For 2013, the Ram 1500 offers 12 different colors, including five new shades. Black Gold,
Copperhead, Maximum Steel Metallic, Prairie and Western Brown are all new and available in a
monotone and/or two-tone depending on the model.

The new, polished stainless steel running boards have a sturdy box cross-section design. Also, the new wheel-to-wheel exclusive running board design offers aerodynamic improvements over the current version and provides customer’s improved access to the forward portion of the truck bed. A new 6-ft.-4-in. bed option is now available on Crew Cab models giving customers the ability to combine Ram 1500’s largest available cab with the largest four-door/bed combination. All-new premium tail lamps are standard and consist of 15 red LEDs with three red LEDs for the side marker.

Interior
For 2013, new features and technologies create opportunity for a redesigned interior with material upgrades; improved fit and finish; all-new interior themes with different colors and materials; all-new HVAC controls and new multimedia systems. The 2013 Ram 1500 also features an exclusive eightspeed transmission with a new rotary e-shift dial design.

Rear occupants can enjoy the same quality, fit and finish as the driver. With points of contact a
priority, new premium materials, colors and designs are now on all four doors. Soft-touch materials enhance armrests and upper bolsters with expanded use of premium surfaces.
The 2013 Ram 1500 features the next generation 8.4-inch Uconnect system with background screens tailor-made to specific Ram models and themes. To make room for the new big screen, the center stack is upgraded with matching materials found throughout the interior. To complement the range of Ram 1500 models, the interior design team created new, individualized themes with different colors and materials. For the Laramie Longhorn, the Ram design team sought out a very rare Walnut grain with a unique burl that was unintentionally created by ranchers using trees as fence posts for barbed wire. Eventually, the trees grow over the rusting metal wire, creating a swirl coloring pattern and tone that is not found anywhere else.

The all-new HVAC controls take lessons learned from other Chrysler Group Uconnect applications and feature simple, improved function, meeting the highest Human Machine Interface (HMI) standards. The HVAC system includes a redundant architecture allowing the operator to use either the 8.4-inch touchscreen or manual controls to alter the truck’s environment. Below the upgraded HVAC arrangement is a new switch bank with relocated, easy-to-use controls for a number of features depending on vehicle models and options. All buttons in the comfort bank also are redundant on the Uconnect system. Contiguous to the switch bank is a prominently placed, adjustable integrated trailer brake control allowing the driver to add or reduce trailer brake function on the fly.

The Ram 1500’s new, exclusive eight-speed transmission created the need for an innovative rotary e-shift dial in the cockpit to replace the center console gate shifter – a first for pickups. The new shifter works in a multitude of seating configurations and will replace floor and column shifters for use in the eight-speed transmission. Realizing this is a dramatic change in the way trucks have historically shifted gears, the interior design team accepted the challenge with a new shift knob, naturally and prominently placed to the driver’s right, at the lower left-hand side of the center stack, in place of the previous transfer case shift knob. The rotary dial enables intuitive blind-shift transitions between “Drive” and “Reverse” with a direct and confident feel. The transfer case retains full capability with push buttons located directly under the e-shift dial.

New technology also moves to the gauge cluster. Previously only available on premium models, the 3.5-inch vehicle information screen is now standard on ST and SLT and displays vehicle operating functions. The new thin film transistor (TFT), 7-inch screen is now available on SLT, standard on Sport, Laramie and Laramie Longhorn models. The 7-inch screen features fully customizable function and configurability. Similar to the 8.4-inch Uconnect screen, select 7-inch cluster background screens are tailor-made to specific Ram models, with designs that match the truck’s theme.

UCONNECT
Introducing Uconnect Access: A Powerful New Platform That Provides Multiple Ways to Connect
The Uconnect Media Centers R3 and R4 provide the Ram 1500 with a built-in cellular connection so vehicle occupants are automatically connected to a variety of new services and the internet with WiFi hotspot capability. The new Uconnect Media Centers provide a direct connection to emergency services when the new 911 button found on the rearview mirror is pushed. Ram 1500 customers also will automatically receive regular vehicle health reports and be able to remotely lock or unlock truck doors, start the vehicle, and flash lights from any distance via the web or a smartphone application.

Ram truck owners will be able to access select, certified in-vehicle applications. Driving-relevant applications will be introduced over time and are designed specifically for in-vehicle use. The certified applications are easily controlled with natural voice recognition or steering wheel controls to keep drivers focused on the road. The responsive 8.4-inch touchscreen includes the award-winning user interface designed by Chrysler Group Human Machine Interface engineers, featuring large icons and visual cues allowing consumers intuitive control of system features.

Uconnect Media Centers Are Always Current
Ram truck owners will be confident to know their truck is designed to be forward-thinking, providing the freedom to upgrade to the latest features and services, without having to replace their factory installed Uconnect systems. Applications are updatable over the air and are downloaded directly to the Uconnect Media Center, so features remain current. Ram truck owners will be able to continually evolve their in-vehicle connectivity experience by downloading app updates or new applications as they become available directly to the Uconnect Media Center from inside the car, via the 8.4-inch touchscreen.

The Ram 1500’s new Uconnect Access system features best-in-class functionality, integrating new entertainment content and is the first time Ram will offer HD Radio to its customers. Ram customers also will have access to SiriusXM Satellite Radio, handsfree mobile phone operation, handsfree navigation, handsfree texting with compatible phones and handsfree control of music. Additionally, new connected services and applications provide real-time access to information and content that Ram 1500 customers want and need while on the road. Uconnect is designed to provide drivers and passengers with relevant, focused and contextual information that is not distracting and easy to use, allowing drivers to remain focused on the road.

Also enhancing driver convenience, Uconnect features one-step voice command of navigation, the ability to check real-time fuel prices and listen and respond to text messages, combined with familiar knobs for climate and comfort controls.

A Variety of Ways to Control Your Content
Uconnect Access controls are placed on the steering wheel. Customer research has shown a
preference towards audio controls located at the rear of the steering wheel and Ram was the first truck manufacturer to integrate these rocker switches for ease of use. Audio system controls, including next station, radio preset and previous station or track, are located on the left. Volume up or down and change audio source are located on the right. This means Ram truck drivers can keep their hands on the wheel while they enjoy a variety of entertainment content sources.

Media Console Offers a Variety of Options
Neatly integrated within the upper storage tier of the center console, a new multimedia input includes USB, SD card and auxiliary connections. The USB allows control of iPod or other media device through the large touchscreen displays and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. A more powerful 2.5 amp, USB port and 12-volt outlet also provide mobile recharging for electronic devices. In addition, MP3 and WMA audio files on a USB memory device may also be played and controlled via the Uconnect system.

New 7-inch Vehicle Information Center
Filling the gauge cluster in front of the driver is an available 7-inch, color, premium vehicle information screen, featuring a new customizable function that enables Ram 1500 customers to personalize information inside the instrument cluster. Similar to the premium Uconnect Systems, select 7-inch instrument cluster background screens are branded with a Ram theme. Ram’s new information display is designed to visually communicate information, using graphics and text, quickly and easily.

The vehicle information display offers drivers a wide range of customization options, from a basic digital speed read out to specific vehicle status information. Operation of the display is clearly communicated to users with easy-to-understand icons and instructions. Using buttons on the steering wheel, drivers can customize the screen with as much or as little information as they desire. The system is intuitive and can be arranged for a variety of views. Up to three analog vehicle status gauges can be added to the display.

The main screens found inside the instrument cluster menu are:
digital speed, vehicle information and fuel economy, trip A information, trip B information, trailer-tow information, audio, stored messages and screen customization. Additionally, the four corners of the display can be customized to show information at a glance, including current fuel economy, outside temperature, time and compass direction.

All-new Powernet Electrical Architecture
As the Ram 1500 continues to offer more feature content, it created the need for a technology that allows more information to be electronically communicated within the truck. The new Powernet system, used for the first time on a Ram 1500, allows both high- and low-speed data networks to be equipped with as many as 40 individual modules, all designed to improve vehicle performance and enhance the comfort and safety of driver and passengers. Within the Powernet high-speed network, each module (e.g., electronic stability control) processes its individual data and transmits the appropriate commands within the vehicle to activate any additional systems (e.g. anti-lock brake system and cruise control). Uconnect leverages Powernet to deliver fast response time, and share critical information between the 8.4-inch touchscreen and the vehicle information center. The Powernet architecture also is the backbone that supports the Uconnect Access services and applications, including the Ram 1500 vehicle health report and remote services.

Sprint Provides Wireless Platform for Next Generation Uconnect Access
Sprint is the strategic wireless partner for the next generation Uconnect Access system. The
integrated wireless technology inside the Ram 1500 enhances the driving experience by offering new connected services and applications. The services delivered through the partnership will be easy to learn, easy to use and will offer a seamless experience with the Ram owner’s digital life. An increasing number of features in the new Ram 1500 will rely on enhanced user interfaces including voice capabilities and commands to help limit driving distractions and keep the focus on the primary driving task.

SAFETY AND SECURITY
On the safety and security front, the Ram 1500 offers more than 45 active and passive safety and security features, including standard front airbags, front and rear side-curtain air bags and seatmounted side pelvic-thorax air bags with Enhanced Accident Response System, knee bolsters, seatbelt pretensioners, BeltAlert® System; and available adjustable pedals, ParkSense® rear park assist and ParkView® rear back-up camera. The 2013 Ram 1500 also includes standard electronic stability control (ESC), hosting a number of technologies including all-speed traction control, trailer-sway control, Hill-start Assist and anti-lock brake system (ABS).

The new 2013 Ram 1500 now features available Keyless Enter ‘n Go technology, which allows the doors to be unlocked and the vehicle ignition to be started without having to touch the key fob. Also new for 2013, remote central locking includes the RamBox® cargo management system and tailgate power locks, creating a convenient solution for locking down the truck with the push of a button. An available remote start feature allows a driver to start their vehicle from up to 300 feet away. Door controls, illuminated entry, engine immobilizer and panic alert are standard features with the Keyless Enter ‘n Go system. The 2013 Ram 1500 is backed with a best-in-class 5-year / 100,000-Mile Powertrain Limited
Warranty. The Powertrain Limited Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair a covered powertrain component – engine, transmission and drive system. Coverage also includes free towing to the nearest Ram dealer, if necessary. The warranty also is transferable allowing customers who sell their truck during the warranty period, to pass the coverage onto the new owner.

The standard 3-year / 36,000-Mile Basic Limited Warranty provides bumper-to-bumper coverage for the Ram 1500, from the body to the electrical system.

QUALITY
To ensure durability, the Ram development team is putting the 2013 Ram 1500 to the test – actually thousands of checks and almost six million customer equivalent testing miles – to validate its performance and reliability for the long haul.

The 2013 Ram 1500’s quality is scrutinized at the company’s Chrysler Technology Center’s stateof-the-art scientific labs in Auburn Hills, Mich., including the Noise/Vibration/Harshness Lab, the Electromagnetic Compatibility Facility, Wind Tunnel and the Road Test Simulator (RTS).
For example, the RTS recreates the abuse a truck endures at the hands of a 95th percentile driver – meaning someone who drives the vehicle in more severe conditions than 95 percent of all customers. The RTS can put a lifetime of wear and tear on a truck in about one month’s time. The Ram development team is committed to finding and fixing any issues before the customer does.

MANUFACTURING
The 2013 Ram 1500 is built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant (Warren, Mich.), which has built
more than 12.5 million trucks since it started operations in 1938. Regular Cab models of the 2013
Ram 1500 are built at the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Saltillo, Mexico.

Computer-generated images of the eagerly awaited SRT Viper have surfaced on the internet. These screenshots comes from a video-presentation of a famous video game, and provide us with a first taste of the design of the car, which is bound to appear in its definitive form at the imminent New York International Auto Show (April 6-15). Unfortunately the images are quite grainy, but nonetheless it is basically the first time we can see the actual design of the new American supercar.

At a first glance it is evident that the new Viper might have lost its Dodge badge, retains the proportions and shape of the first two generations of this model, with its signature long hood now sporting three air-intakes to let its powerful engine breath. As usual, the long front section of the car makes it look like the cabin is almost sitting on the rear axle, while its sleek sides lead to a rear end with revised tail-lights and a flashy rear spoiler.

In order to get the actual technical specs as well as more details on the much-anticipated new Viper, we will have to wait for just a few more hours, when SRT will unleash the official press release and an hopefully large number of high-res pics of its brand new monster.

American company LA Custom Coach is responsible for making one of the most original and curious Dodge Challenger-based model ever produced. We would not use the word ‘tuning’ here as it is just not fitting: what LA Custom Coach did in fact is turning the famous muscle car with the Ram badge into a proper limousine, losing basically all of its sporty feel in the process.

The model comes with a 24″ TV screen, ambient led lights, black and red leather upholstery and, obviously, the whole bar thingy. The nice people from LA Custom Coach point out that the model is already fully-working and that a second one has already been completed and is waiting in the wings, while a third one will soon be ready as well.

Dodge has just introduced the new Rallye Redline package for its Challenger model at the recent Spring Festival of Irvine, California. Based on the SXT Plus, this new version of the Challenger has been designed to give the car a more sporty and punchy appeal, and uses several details that remind of the racing world.

Under the bonnet there is a Pentastar 3.6-litre V6 delivering 310 hp, while the package also provides for exclusive 20″ alloy wheels with red inserts as well as a red stripe that crosses the whole body of the model. As reported by website LeftLaneNews - which was the first to release a photo gallery of this model - the Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline will be available with four color options: Bright White, Tungsten, Pitch Black and Bright Silver, all of which will come with the same red stripe.

Other remarkable features of this variant of the Challenger include a 276 Watt Boston Acustic sound system with 6 speakers, satellite radio and the U-connect infotainment system. Paddle shifters at the wheel, leather upholstery and heated seats are also part of the standard equipment, while the price is set at 28.745 dollars.

The upcoming new Viper will no longer be listed as a Dodge model, it will be marketed under the SRT brand and will come with a brand new logo too, called the ‘Stryker’. The move follows in the footsteps of the previous models as every Viper’s generation has had its own ’snake logo’.

The new Viper badge has been drawn by young Chrysler designer Vince Galante, who admitted he was a fan of Transformers, GI Joe and the Thundercats as a kid: “I never looked at images of the Thundercats while I was doing the new logo - said Galante - but after the fact, I realize that the new design has some elements of those graphics, but more intentionally has some lines that reflect the new Viper”. The new SRT Viper will be officially unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show (April 6-15).

We have been talking a lot about the new Dodge Dart in the last few days: we received some teasers first and then, yesterday, right before its official unveiling at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, we published the official photo gallery as well as the most significant specs. As previously reported, the new Dodge Dart has been developed on the same platform that generated the Alfa Romeo Giulietta (making it the first Chrysler Group vehicle built on Fiat Group architecture), and will take on the market with the following engine range: a 2.0-litre 16-valve unit delivering 160 hp, a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre delivering 184 hp and a turbocharged 1.4 MultiAir engine, also producing 160 hp. The Dart sports a pretty athletic exterior and boasts an equally classy interior, using materials and craftsmanship that are typical of cars from an higher segment. The model is equipped with a number of safety devices (i.e. 10 air bags, reactive head-restraint system, blind-spot and rear cross path detection, brake assist and so forth) as well as segment-leading technology (most notably its 8.4″ Uconnect Touch Media Center).

The new Dodge Dart will compete in the compact sedan segment and will be available in 12 exterior colors and 14 color/trim combinations for the interior. The production of the new model will start this coming summer at Chrysler’s plant in Belvidere, Illinois, with the first units expected to hit a Dodge’s showrooms near you in the fall of 2012. Performance-inspired design

Exterior

The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart boasts a timeless, stylish and distinctive exterior design. The car sports an athletic, sculpted, fluid and aesthetically agile appearance. The exterior design of the Dart conveys a level of visual drama and timeless surfaces that add excitement to the competitive compact sedan segment in the United States.

“The Dodge Dart was a dream to design,” said Joe Dehner, Head of Dodge Design - Chrysler Group LLC. “The Alfa Romeo-based architecture allowed us to design an exterior with great proportions that say ‘fun-to-drive’ when you look at it. Add in the Charger-inspired ‘racetrack’ taillamps, a new, sleek crosshair grille and piano black accents, and it all adds up to a performance-inspired design with just the right amount of attitude.”

The Fiat Group-based Compact U.S. Wide (CUS-wide) architecture’s low, wide and long dimensions ensured a stable “body-in, wheels-out” stance and coupe-like silhouette. The CUS-wide platform allowed for accentuating the fender formations and pushing the wheels as far out to the corners as possible, creating a very stable look, which gave Dodge designers incredible opportunities for some very dramatic sculpturing. Designers visually stretched the skin of the car over the vehicle framework as if stretching nylon over a surface.

“When designing the all-new Dodge Dart, we were inspired by classic, beautifully designed vehicles throughout time,” Dehner added. “Each car was beautiful, based on its surface work and presence alone; they didn’t need unnecessary cladding, jewelry or lines that confuse the eye.”

Once the basic design was in place, with dynamic lines and curves from every angle, designers inserted a little Dodge attitude into the mix. The face of the Dart was styled with the unmistakable Dodge split crosshair grille, but with a modern, sleek look that “floats” in the front fascia, giving the Dart a full-width mask that marks it as a Dodge.

The rear view of the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart features an available Charger-inspired “racetrack” full-width taillamp with 152 indirect glow LEDs, and class-exclusive dual exhausts mounted in the rear fascia.

The front of the 2013 Dodge Dart has been designed for smooth airflow around, above and below the car without compromising styling or engine cooling requirements. In addition, a lower radiator close-out panel is positioned below the front fascia. This not only contributes to the Dart’s lower front-end appearance, but also reduces drag while still allowing for an 8-inch curb clearance.

Dodge designers made attention to detail and precision craftsmanship a priority, and it is noticeable from every angle. Standard laser-braised roof welds, high-quality metal Daylight Opening (DLO) moldings painted piano black and standard projector headlamps are just a few examples of well-crafted features typically found on much more expensive classes of vehicles.

Tasteful, detailed accents add to the design of the Dodge Dart. Style lines on the hood lead the eye to the floating crosshair grille, while chrome accent spears below the projector headlamps and inboard of available projector fog lamps highlight the attention to detail.

The result is a compact sedan that blends exceptional proportions, “aero-dramatic” surfacing, world-class craftsmanship, modern technology, an exceptionally quiet cabin and an upscale feel in a package that is undeniably a Dodge.

Interior

Dodge designers focused on creating a modern blend of precision craftsmanship, state-of-the-art technology, exciting bursts of color and hand-sculpted shapes when designing the Dart’s interior, which is crafted with materials and technology typically found in more expensive vehicle segments. The 2013 Dodge Dart will be powered by three fuel-efficient, powerful, state-of-the-art four-cylinder engines that add to Dart’s fun-to-drive quotient. Drivers can select from a new 160 horsepower Tigershark 16-valve 2.0-liter engine, a 160 horsepower 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir® Intercooled Turbo engine and a new 184 horsepower Tigershark 16-valve 2.4-liter MultiAir 2 four-cylinder engine. Alfa Romeo DNA

The Dodge brand’s re-entry into the U.S. compact sedan segment is based off of the award-winning Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The Giulietta is renowned for satisfying the most demanding customers in terms of road-holding agility and safety, with exceptional driving dynamics. The Giulietta platform was lengthened and widened, creating a spacious compact sedan that meets the wants and needs of North American consumers.

The proven modular architecture allows multiple models to be built using the same basic underpinnings, resulting in improvements in quality and reliability, as well as reducing cost, development timing and tooling. The body structure of the Dart is comprised of 68 percent high-strength steel – hot stamped, high-strength and ultra-high-strength – resulting in an architecture that is lightweight, modern and solid.

The 2013 Dodge Dart features the proven, lightweight MacPherson strut front suspension, specifically tuned to minimize camber loss, resulting in more responsive steering and handling characteristics, improved ride quality and a reduction in road noise – all qualities drivers will appreciate.

A bi-link independent rear suspension enables European handling capability for those drivers who love to lean into corners and the smooth ride North American drivers covet.

World-class aerodynamics

The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart compact sedan was designed and engineered for world-class aerodynamic performance. With more than 600 hours in the wind tunnel during the Dart’s development and using technology typically found on more expensive vehicles, Dodge engineers and designers looked at every aspect from the ground up to optimize the aerodynamic performance of the Dart.

The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is the first Dodge vehicle to use an active grille shutter system. The system automatically stops airflow through the lower intake at highway speeds when less engine cooling is required and aerodynamic drag is most significant. When closed, the shutter system enhances aerodynamic performance by redirecting airflow around the front of the vehicle and down the sides, rather than through it. The active grille shutter system will open or close automatically based upon engine coolant temperature and vehicle speed.

Underbody panels run stem to stern on the Dodge Dart, covering the majority of the lower vehicle from the front fascia to the rear fascia. Constructed of mold-in-color (MIC) black composite, the panels both enhance the aerodynamic performance and also block road noise.

Tire spats located forward of the front and rear tires were engineered to function as mini air dams and were optimized for shape and ground clearance, adding to the underbody efficiency in conjunction with the underbody panels.

In the design and engineering of the 2013 Dodge Dart, no aerodynamic detail was too small. Mirror design, the notch angle at the top of the header of the backlight to the trailing edge of the decklid and even the tail lamp applique shape and rear corners were all designed and engineered for optimal aero performance. An integrated decklid spoiler incorporates a trailing edge shape for cleaner airflow separation in the rear portion of the vehicle, which optimizes the air wake.

Class-leading Safety Features

The all-new 2013 Dodge Dart was engineered with 60 safety and security features to ensure driver’s and passengers’ peace of mind when traveling. The Dodge Dart starts with a strong foundation, a body that has a high-strength steel content of 68 percent, one of the highest in the industry, and then adds both active and passive safety features. Driver and passenger safety features include 10 standard airbags, which is unsurpassed in the segment and include: dual-stage adaptive venting front driver and passenger air bags, front-seat-mounted driver and passenger pelvic and thorax air bags, two rear-seat-mounted pelvic air bags, front driver and passenger knee air bags and all-row side-curtain air bags. Following a slew of teasers and rumors, the first official images and a video of the new Dodge Dart have finally surfaced on the internet, just a few hours before its official unveiling at the North American International Auto Show, in Detroit. As previously reported, the Dart has been developed on the same C-Evo platform that generated the Alfa Romeo Giulietta - making it the first Chrysler car based on a Fiat’s platform - and will go on to replace the Caliber in Dodge’s line-up. Strategy-wise, the Dart represents a very important model for the Fiat-Chrysler Group, which just needs to new model to be successful in order to revamp its position on the American market and achieve the goals they have set for themselves for the next two years.

This massive photo gallery and the video give us the chance to take an all-comprehensive look at the model, which will be undisputed star at the Dodge’s stall in Detroit. The Dart appears to be longer than the Alfa Romeo-badged model it derives from (it has a three box configuration, whereas the Giulietta is a proper hatchback), boasts a quite aggressive-looking front end dominated by massive hexagonal grille and a rear end that makes large use of LED technology. The cabin features fine upholstery and a pretty original dashboard design, with an original instrumentation cluster and a 8.4″ LCD touch-screen placed right in the middle. Through this screen, the driver will be able to control the main functions of the car as well as its modern info-tainment options, which rely on the Uconnect system. in order to please any kind of customer, Dodge will offer 14 different color-finishing-upholstery combinations for the interior.

The Dodge Dart will begin its commercial life with three 4-cylinder engine options taken from the automaker’s range of new Tigershark small-displacement engines: a 2.0-litre 16-valve unit delivering 160 hp, a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre delivering 184 hp and a turbocharged 1.4 MultiAir engine producing also 160 hp. As for the transmission, initially there will be two possible choices: a 6-speed manual gearbox or the TCT dual clutch transmission (both of which have been seen on the Giulietta), while another 9-speed automatic gearbox manufactured by German specialist ZF will join the fold at a later time. Dodge confirms that 68% of the Dart’s body structure is made of high-strength steel, which can be thinner and lighter than standard steel. The production of the 2013 Dodge Dart is scheduled to start this coming summer at Chrysler’s plant in Belvedere, Illinois, with the first models expected to hit the showrooms in Autumn 2012.

Dodge will unveil the 2012 Dodge Charger Blacktop in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show (January 10-13). The model comes with a completely black outfit, meaning black livery, blackened windows, black alloys and smoked tail lights: basically it is all black apart from the aluminum finishing of the exhaust pipes and the head lamps.

Stealth-like appearance aside, the other main highlight of this car is its specifically developed ‘Beats’ audio system, designed in collaboration with hip-hop legend Dr. Dre and featuring 10 speakers, a 12-channel amplifier and an 8.4″ U-connect screen. This sound system is already available as standard on the V8 Hemi-powered Chrysler 300S and as an option on the V6 variants of the 300. commenting on the partnership, Dodge’s main man Reid Bigland stated: “Our goal in partnering with Beats by Dr. Dre is to integrate their recording-studio quality audio experience for our Charger enthusiasts to feel and hear their favorite music as it was intended – all while heightening the street performance and technology assets of the new 2012 Dodge Charger”.

The Chrysler Group hasn’t explicitly revealed what sort of engine will be powering the Charger Blacktop, but we would expect it to come with either a 5.7-litre V8 or a 3.6-litre V6. The undisputed star of Dodge’s stand at this year North America International Auto Show is definitely going to be the Dart, the new C-segment car developed on the same platform that generated Alfa Romeo Giulietta, but even though the carmaker would like to maintain the focus on the brand new hatchback, the Dart is not going to be the only new car at the event in Detroit.

For this reason, Mopar (the automobile parts and service arm of Chrysler Group LLC) will also be in Michigan to present a pair of new models: the Chrysler 200 Super S and Dodge Charger Redline. The former is a spiced-up version of the - frankly - not too exciting Chrysler 200 that will come with the Super S package. The most distinctive features of the model in comparison to its ‘basic’ counterpart are a specifically developed aerodynamic package (composed of lip spoiler, side skirts, trunk lid spoiler and diffuser), satin chrome accents (for the front grill, fog lights trim, badges and rear light bar) and 18″ “S” alloys. If you would like the performance of the car to mirror its new found aggressive look, there is also a ‘Stage Two’ kit available, consisting of a coil-over suspension, a cold air intake and a new exhaust system.

The Dodge Charger Redline make use of three different Mopar tuning kits which will be made available in 2012. The first one includes an add-on chin spoiler, door scoops and a rear spoiler (all of which made of carbon fibre), 20″ ‘Black Envy’ wheels and a matt black roof. The second kit comprises a cat-back performance exhaust, a front-tower cross-brace and tower brace caps and high-performance Mopar brake linings. Finally, stage three gives us the power boost we were waiting for in the form of a high-output version of the 426 Hemi V8 crate engine that weighs about 45 kg less and adds 220 hp to the power of the standard V8 Charger, for a total output of 590 hp. Chrysler Group LLC Introduces Chrysler 200 Super S by Mopar

Auburn Hills, Mich. , Jan 2, 2012 - Chrysler Group LLC’s Mopar brand set its sights on the 2012 Chrysler 200. The Chrysler 200 Super S by Mopar is a rolling showcase for the latest Mopar exterior parts that will be available for the 200 sedan in 2012. The Chrysler 200 Super S by Mopar will debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.

“The Super S is Mopar’s interpretation of the Chrysler 200,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “The extensive list of high-quality Mopar parts enhances the performance and appearance of our Chrysler 200.”

For Stage One, Mopar’s long list of modifications starts at the front of the car with a large chin spoiler, satin chrome fog light trim, satin chrome grille surround and mesh in the upper and lower grilles. The upper grille is gloss black with a recessed Chrysler wing badge.

Body sides feature new side sills, satin chrome belt molding, black chrome “200″ badges and gray or hyper black 18-inch “S” alloy wheels.

From the rear view, the new look is capped off by a new trunk lid spoiler, satin chrome light bar and a matte black lower diffuser with attached exhaust openings.

Stage Two adds performance with a coil-over suspension, which also lowers the center of gravity for the vehicle. In addition, Stage Two includes a cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust.

This Mopar package on the Chrysler 200 Super S will be available on Chrysler 200S later in 2012. Mopar’s Chrysler 200 Super S will be one many Mopar-modified vehicles that will debut during the 2012 auto show season.

Stage I: Aerodynamic Carbon Fiber Exterior Components and Interior Accents

Based on the 2012 Dodge Charger R/T model, Mopar’s list of Stage I modifications includes a full-width Mopar carbon fiber chin spoiler to give the Charger Redline a more aggressive appearance. Matching the Redline Tri-coat paint, the two-piece grille features a body-color painted-grille surround with black signature “crosshair” insert. Large 20 x 8-inch Mopar Black Envy Wheels feature a Pitch Black-painted wheel face with polished accents. Mopar carbon fiber door scoops highlight Dodge Charger Redline’s signature body-side scallops and include heritage “R/T” badging to pay homage to the historic 1970 Charger model. A three-piece Mopar carbon fiber rear spoiler adds additional down force and provides an even more dynamic look. Emphasizing Dodge Charger Redline’s fastback silhouette is Mopar’s vinyl roof graphic in matte black.

The Dodge Charger Redline’s cockpit design features premium materials and is further enhanced with a Mopar aluminum shift bezel and aluminum instrument panel bezel with Redline perimeter accent. For a more enthusiast-desired look, Mopar pedal covers are made from stainless steel and feature a rubberized pattern for improved traction.

Stage II: Mopar Bolt-on Performance Parts Deliver Improved Power, Handling and Braking

Designed and tested straight from the factory, the Dodge Charger Redline features Mopar’s Stage II performance kit to enhance its already world-class power, handling and braking.

Allowing the Dodge Charger Redline’s legendary HEMI® V-8 engine to perform at its optimal level, Mopar’s cat-back performance exhaust system delivers an increase in horsepower and a menacing “throaty” sound. Under the hood, a front-tower cross-brace and front tower brace caps provide increased structural stability for improved handling dynamics. For ultimate braking capabilty, high-performance Mopar brake linings are track tested and deliver fade-resistance during hard braking use.

Stage III: Mopar’s Gen III High Output 426 HEMI V-8 engine, with 590 Horsepower on Tap

Delivering 220 more horsepower than the 2012 Dodge Charger R/T, the Charger Redline features the new high-output version of the powerful and lightweight Gen III 426 HEMI V-8 crate engine (for race/off-road use only).

With its legendary 426 cubic-inch “Elephant Motor,” the Dodge Charger Redline delivers 590 horsepower via a lightweight aluminum V-8 engine block that shaves more than 100 lbs. from the traditional cast-iron crate version. The new Gen III High Output 426 HEMI engine is professionally built and includes a stout, balanced lower reciprocating assembly that features a forged-steel crankshaft with six-bolt mains at 2, 3 and 4, and cross-bolted 4-bolt mains at 1 and 5. H-beam style rods are made from forged steel and coupled to forged 11:1 compression ratio aluminum pistons. Included is a revised windage tray to provide excellent oil dispersion and prevents oil aeration by the crankshaft.

The Gen III High Output 426 HEMI engine’s valvetrain starts with a more aggressive roller camshaft with .639 intake and .628 exhaust lift and cylinder heads that feature the latest designs for exceptional flow characteristics. To help stabilize the valvetrain at high engine rpm, tie bars are available.

Mopar cast-aluminum valve covers and billet fuel rails are also included in the Dodge Charger Redline’s Stage III performance kit.

Mopar has introduced numerous industry-first features including:

What can be considered a crucial model in automotive history is going to be up for grabs soon at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. We are talking about the very first General Lee of the world-famous The Dukes of Hazzard TV series, that aired between 1979 and 1985. And - mind you - we are not talking about one of the over 300 Dodge Chargers that got thrashed during the filming of the series, those were all replicas of this one, the original, the first General Lee to ever grace the TV screen on the pilot episode, the one that can be seen jumping Roscoe’s Dodge Monaco police cruiser at the beginning of each episode (pictured above, see the video after the jump): this is the real deal.

Also known as “Lee 1″, this 1969 Dodge Charger quite understandably did not last that long in the showbiz as it surely was not designed for the stunts and jumps that the script required in the first place, and after a few appearances as background car in a few scenes, in 1978 it was sent to rot in a junkyard in Georgia until 2001, when it was retrieved and purchased by Mr. Travis Bell and eventually sold to The Dukes Of Hazzard enthusiast Marvin Murphy, who worked on the restoration of the model to its pre-jump conditions together with Mr.Bell himself. The whole process was covered by website Inside Line - which was also the first to report the news about the auction - and the resurrected model was finally completed in 2006.

The restored “Lee 1″ is powered by a Dodge 383 hp V8 engine (hence not an Hemi unit), has recently been on display at the DuPont Registry’s museum in Florida and will be sold in an open auction with no reserve. Less significant models used in the filming has been sold in the past for 450,000 $, therefore the grandfather of all the General Lee replicas that followed is expected to fetch more than that. All in all, this is one of the most famous cars in the world and arguably the real star of one of the most celebrated TV-series of all time (well, either that or Daisy Duke’s shorts). Two more teasers of the upcoming Dodge Dart have been released by the American carmaker. As for the teasers, on the first one we can notice right away a little LCD monitor placed right in between tachometer and transmission gauges, providing some navigation info as well as other data (such as fuel consumption) in its upper side. The second one is a snapshot of the 8.4″ touch-screen media/infotainment display probably located in the center of the dashboard, that seems to offer plenty of menus to manage all the functions of the car as well as other peripheral devices.
