	<p>The new BMW <a href="<a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+4-series">4-Series</a> Convertible (or <a href="<a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+3-series">3-Series</a> convertible, depending on which source you give more credit to) has been caught again by our photographers, and this time we spotted it with its foldable top down. Apparently, the spring has arrived in Germany too as these two guys from BMW thought it was a good idea to go out for a spin with the latest, hottest convertible prototype from the Bavarian manufacturer. Well, we surely agree and appreciated that.</p>
	<p>The new BMW 4-Series is being developed on the same platform the latest 3-Series, with the ranges sharing the same engine line-up as well. However, rumor has it that a Coupe and a Convertible version of the 4-Series will come with the engine of the next <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+m3">M3</a>, that is a 3.3-litre 6-cylinder unit credited with an output in the 450 hp region.</p>

	<title>Mini: One-Off Life Ball Roadster</title>

	<p><a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/categoria/mini">Mini</a> has prepared a One-Off model to support the Life Ball charity gala in Vienna for the twelfth time.  Mini has been involved in this project since its market launch in 2001 and during this time many celebrities have joined the cause by designing 11 unique cars, which has been auctioned at the event.  The proceeds from the Life Ball Mini models go to charity combating HIV and AIDS: so far the amount collected has been more than 500.000 Euros.</p>
	<p>This year One-Off will be based on the Mini <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/mini+roadster">Roadster</a>, reinterpreted by Franca Sozzani, chief editor of Italian Vogue and UN Goodwill Ambassador for Fashion 4 Development.  Sozzani described the Mini as “a beautiful woman who put a scarf on her head when she drives a Roadster.”</p>
	<p>The car has been painted in Deepest Purple matt paint along with gold rally stripes on the bonnet and a floral design on the roof, as well as steel-coloured accents on the alloy wheels and doors&#8217; mirrors.  The car will be auctioned on the 19th May in Vienna during the AIDS Solidarity Gala.</p>

	<p><a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/categoria/bugatti">Bugatti</a> releases a new video starring the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bugatti+veyron+grand+sport+vitesse">Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse</a>, the convertible variant of the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/veyron+super+sport">Veyron Super Sport</a> which uses the same, terrific 8.0-litre quad turbo W16 engine with new superchargers and bigger intercoolers. This outstanding engine is credited with an output of 1,200 hp with 1,500 Nm of maximum torque that pushes the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.6 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 7.1 seconds and can make it rach a top speed in excess of 400 km/h (about 250 mph).</p>
	<p>The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse measures 4,462 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width and 1,190 mm in height, and can come with an all-wheel drive system, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, and a set of carbon-ceramic brakes, 400 mm at the front and 380 mm at the back. The model also features three modes of suspension settings: Standard, Handling and Top Speed. The Top Speed one is the setting selected for driving at speeds of over 375 km/k (233 mph).</p>
	<p>In order to compensate the lack of a proper roof, Bugatti’s engineers worked on the chassis of the car to make it stiffer, making also the NACA air intakes larger, making them larger. This modification will allow its powerful W16 unit to get the right cooling when driving with the soft top down. Simply put, this is the fastest serially produced convertible car in automotive history.</p>

	<p><a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/categoria/bmw">BMW</a> has released a new official video of the i8 Concept Spyder that will be officially unveiled at the upcoming <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/2012+beijing+motor+show">Beijing Motor Show</a> (April 23rd- May 2nd).  The car, which should be launched in 2014, will have contained dimensions with a length of 4.63m.</p>
	<p>The convertible uses the modular LifeDrive platform powered by a 3-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine fitted to the rear axle that serves as Range Extender.  The internal-combustion unit is coupled to an electric motor mounted on the front axle, which brings the power of the car to 354 hp and 550 Nm of torque.</p>
	<p>Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h while acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is covered in 5 seconds flat.  In contrast to the performance, fuel consumption is very low: the car, on average, needs only 3 litres of petrol per 100 km, with the ability to travel up to 30 km on electric power alone.</p>

	<p>A mule of the upcoming <a href="www.eurocarblog.com/tag/opel+astra">Opel Astra</a> Convertible has been spotted while doing some winter testing in Northern Europe. The pictured prototype still uses a temporary roof top that has nothing to do with the real solution, but rumor has it that eventually the car will adopt a conventional soft top as opposed to the retracteble hardtop used on the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/post/349/english-commercial-for-the-vauxhall-astra-twin-top">Astra TwinTop</a>. </p>
	<p>From an aesthetic point of view, the new Opel Astra Convertible should end up being pretty similar to the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/opel+astra+gtc">GTC</a> coupe, especially as far as the lines of the two sides are concerned. Same goes for the engine range, with the only exception of the ultra-sporty <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/opel+astra+opc">OPC</a> variant.</p>
	<p>It is also believed that the new model might not be using the &#8220;Astra&#8221; name: Mark Adams, Vice President of Design for GM Europe, had hinted at this possibility during an interview released last October, but at this moment there are neither confirmations nor denials on the subject to speak of. </p>

	<p>Mercedes will be at the upcoming <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/2012+new+york+auto+show">New York International Auto Show</a> (April 6-15) with the new <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/mercedes+sl+65+amg">SL 65 AMG</a>, which is due to hit the showrooms in November. The model is equipped with the same 6.0-litre twin turbo V12 of the previous version - credited with an output of 630 hp and 1.000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque - coupled with a more efficient and modern 6-speed automatic gearbox, that replaces the old 5-speed one. Appaently, the move will allow the new SL 65 AMG to shave off a few tenth of a second over the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of the model it is about to replace, while fuel consumption will be lower too. The new model will also use three cruising modes: Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport Plus and Manual.</p>
	<p>Weighing in at 1,950 kg, the new SL 65 AMG will be no less than 120 kg lighter than the outgoing generation, thanks for the most part to its brand new aluminum body frame. The model will come with a sporty ABC active suspension system and a new electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering, whereas braking will make use of 39 mm steel discs at the front and 36 mm at the rear (although carbon-ceramic discs will also be made available as optional extra) .</p>
	<p>From an aesthetic point of view, the SL 65 AMG uses chrome inserts on the front end, bigger aerodynamic flicks, a brand new set of 19&#8243; alloy wheels (a burnished set will also available as an option) and a bonnet made of carbon fibre, while the passenger compartment gets embellished with a number of steel and carbon elements. The car obviously comes with a number of aid and safety systems, including the Magic Sky Control, the Bang &#038; Olufsen sound system and the clever AirScaft system. 	<p>Mercedes-AMG is embarking on the 2012 roadster season in inimitably dynamic style: following on from the recent launch of the SL 63 AMG, the top eight-cylinder model, there now comes the presentation of the new Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG, the V12 roadster in the line-up from the Stuttgart-based manufacturer. The AMG 6.0-litre V12 &#8220;biturbo&#8221; (twin-turbocharged) engine develops a maximum output of 463 kW (630 hp) and maximum torque of 1000 newton metres. The result: exceptional performance, impressive power delivery and effortlessly superior dynamics. As with the SLS AMG super sports car, the use of an all-aluminium bodyshell results in a drastic reduction in weight. The new SL 65 AMG is some 170 kilograms lighter than before. The expressive front section is dominated by the new &#8220;twin blade&#8221; radiator grille and the front apron&#8217;s lower cross strut in high-sheen chrome.</p>
	<p>&#8220;The combination of exclusive V12 dynamic performance and a refined roadster driving experience was already the defining attribute of the predecessor model. We are convinced that, with the new SL 65 AMG, we have developed an incomparably exciting high-performance vehicle for the small, but loyal community of fans&#8221;, says Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.</p>
	<p>An important aspect of the new model is the intelligent lightweight construction which also contributes to reducing the fuel consumption. At 11.6 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC combined) it represents a saving of 2.4 litres or 17 percent compared with the previous SL 65 AMG and simultaneously establishes a new benchmark in the twelve-cylinder petrol engine segment. A major role in the reduced fuel consumption figures is played by the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission, the ECO start/stop function, in-engine measures to optimise efficiency and alternator management. Despite the significantly reduced fuel consumption, the maximum output of the AMG V12 6-litre biturbo engine is up from 450 kW (612 hp) to 463 kW (630 hp). The maximum torque is 1000 newton metres.</p>
	<p>The unrivalled performance figures of the new SL 65 AMG translate into an exceptional driving experience: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4 seconds with the 200 km/h mark attained after just 11.8 seconds. The top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited). As well as offering stunning acceleration, the AMG twelve-cylinder biturbo engine impresses with its smooth running characteristics and its distinctive AMG V12 sound. It is a performance that reconciles effortless superiority and stylishness to perfection.</p>

	<p><strong>AMG 6-litre V12 biturbo engine with new technology</strong></p>
	<p>The AMG 6-litre V12 biturbo engine with the designation M 279 is based on the M 275 engine used previously and has been comprehensively revised for the new SL 65 AMG. New exhaust gas turbochargers with an increased spiral cross-section, new manifolds and wastegate ducts with optimised flow characteristics increase the engine output by 13 kW (18 hp). The multi-spark ignition with twelve double ignition coils not only results in smoother running, but also enables even more effective combustion in combination with a new engine management system with higher performance and optimised cylinder heads. The resulting reduction in exhaust emissions is also due to a large extent to the optimised catalytic converter system. The newly developed AMG sports exhaust system, which has a pipe layout with enhanced flow characteristics, is 3.2 kilograms lighter as a result of a reduction in the wall thickness.</p>
	<p>But it is not just the inner qualities of the AMG 6-litre V12 biturbo engine that impress. The powerplant&#8217;s looks are as inspiring as its performance: the high-quality carbon-fibre and aluminium engine cover reflects the exceptional character of the powerful twelve-cylinder unit.<br />
<strong><br />
New: AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC</strong></p>
	<p>For the first time AMG has combined the 6-litre V12 biturbo engine with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G TRONIC. The seven-speed automatic transmission with its wide gear ratio spread enables a significantly lower engine speed and helps to reduce fuel consumption. A new fuel economy torque converter, bearings designed for reduced friction loss and the transmission-oil thermal management system are responsible for a further increase in the efficiency of the power transmission system.</p>
	<p>The AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G TRONIC has four different driving modes – Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S), Sport plus (S+) and Manual (M) – which can be selected at the push of a button on the centre console. In &#8220;C&#8221; mode the ECO start/stop function is permanently active. The compelling, dynamic character of the driving experience is made all the more vivid by the automatic double-declutching function during downshifts and through the brief, precisely defined interruption of ignition and fuel injection during upshifts under full load; the latter functionality has the additional benefit of reducing the shift times.</p>
	<p><strong>Intelligent lightweight construction with all-aluminium bodyshell and carbon fibre</strong></p>
	<p>Compared with the predecessor model&#8217;s steel design, the all-aluminium bodyshell of the new SL 65 AMG delivers a significant weight saving of around 110 kilograms as well as superior rigidity, safety and comfort. Intelligent lightweight construction also means that the components have been optimised in line with their specific purpose. Various types of processing are used for the aluminium components, for instance, which are produced as permanent mould castings or vacuum die castings before being processed into extruded sections or used in the form of sheet aluminium with varying wall thicknesses. The result is high rigidity, high safety and improved vibration characteristics. For the cover behind the tank, the designers use even lighter magnesium material in certain areas. High-strength steel tubes are integrated into the A-pillars for safety reasons.</p>
	<p>The boot lid helps to further trim the weight. For the first time on a volume-produced model, the inner support is made from lightweight carbon-fibre composite. The extremely rigid carbon-fibre component is bonded to the plastic outer shell, resulting in a weight saving of five kilograms compared with a conventional boot lid – an innovative solution that is being pioneered with the AMG SL models. This raft of innovative lightweight-design measures means that, at an EC kerb weight of 1950 kilograms, the new SL 65 AMG is 170 kilograms lighter than the model it replaces.<br />
<strong><br />
AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control</strong></p>
	<p>Mercedes-AMG also makes systematic use of lightweight construction principles for the suspension. The steering knuckles and spring links of the 4-link front suspension and almost all of the multi-link independent rear suspension components are made of aluminium. Both the vehicle&#8217;s handling agility and the response of the spring and damper components are enhanced by the reduction in unsprung masses. Like the predecessor model, the new SL 65 AMG is equipped as standard with the ABC active suspension system. The AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control fitted in the eight-cylinder SL 63 AMG has been enhanced and its setup optimised for this new top-of-the-range model.</p>
	<p>Driving dynamics and performance were the key objectives during the design, development and testing phases. It is possible to choose between two suspension settings at the touch of a button: distinctly sporty characteristics with reduced roll angles and firm body damping (&#8221;Sport&#8221;) or a mode for high comfort on long journeys (&#8221;Comfort&#8221;). More negative camber on both axles and fully revised elastokinematics result in greater agility and faster cornering speeds.</p>
	<p><strong>New electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering</strong></p>
	<p>Equipped with the newly developed electro-mechanical AMG speed-sensitive sports steering, the V12 top model impresses with high dynamic qualities and eloquent feedback at the critical limits. The steering has a constant, more direct ratio and variable power assistance which adjusts in line with the suspension mode. Further standard equipment includes 3-stage ESP®, a speciality exclusive to AMG with &#8220;SPORT Handling&#8221; mode for particularly keen drivers, and an AMG rear axle differential which helps ensure that the phenomenal engine output is put down on the road as effectively as possible.</p>
	<p>All the qualities expected of an AMG high-performance braking system – excellent deceleration characteristics, optimum sensitivity and high resistance to fading – are delivered to perfection by the newly developed brake system of the SL 65 AMG. It features 390 x 36 mm compound discs with six-piston fixed callipers at the front and 360 x 26 mm integral discs with single-piston sliding callipers at the rear. An electric parking brake is fitted as standard. Red-painted callipers, as well as the even more powerful weight-optimised AMG ceramic high-performance compound brake system as seen on the SLS AMG, are available from the AMG Performance Studio as options.</p>
	<p><strong>New AMG brand face with two blade-like louvres</strong></p>
	<p>The new SL 65 AMG lives up to its stylish and exclusive high-performance roadster claim not only with its engineering but through its looks, too. The SL 65 AMG is the first model to feature the new AMG brand face. The two elements which dominate the form – the radiator grille and the lower cooling air intake – are retained but in reinterpreted form which gives them a more distinctive identity in terms of dynamism and the sense of perceived value they convey. The central styling feature is the new &#8220;twin blade&#8221; radiator grille in high-sheen chrome. The Mercedes star is mounted on two blade-like louvres whose profile recalls that of an aircraft wing. The more pronounced V-shape of the radiator grille optimises the longitudinal proportions of the vehicle and so adds even greater visual emphasis to the attributes of aerodynamics and purism.</p>
	<p>Below the &#8220;twin blade&#8221; radiator grille, the stylised &#8220;A&#8221;, a characteristic feature of AMG vehicles, is retained. A gap formed below a fine black fin at the lower edge of the cooling air opening allows an optimum airflow over the cooling modules – a perfect combination of aesthetics and high technology. The lower cross strut in the front apron is finished in high-sheen chrome and is given a perceived sense of depth by the gap above it – a distinctive note which adds the perfect finishing touch to the front of the vehicle. The &#8220;twin blade&#8221; radiator grille and lower cross strut are the two complementary styling elements which underline the new AMG brand face – a look which will be picked up by the styling of future AMG models and so further increase the recognition value of the AMG performance brand.</p>
	<p>The V12 top model is distinguished from the SL 63 AMG through the strategic use of high-sheen chrome highlights: along with the &#8220;twin blade&#8221; radiator grille and the lower cross strut, the surrounds of the special AMG daytime running lamps as well as the fins on the bonnet and the side of the wings have the same finish. Further characteristic AMG styling cues to be found on the SL 65 AMG include the front apron with large openings for the engine oil, water, charge air and transmission oil coolers, the specially shaped side sill panels, the AMG spoiler lip and the diffuser-look rear apron with a vehicle-colour insert.</p>
	<p>In addition to the two special chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system, the characteristic V12 features include the &#8220;V12 BITURBO&#8221; legend on the front wings and the AMG 5-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish and equipped with 255/35 R 19 and 285/30 R 19 tyres at front and rear respectively. AMG multi-spoke forged light-alloy wheels from the AMG Performance Studio with 255/35 R 19 front tyres and 285/30 R 20 rear tyres reduce the unsprung masses. The forged wheels are also available in matt black with a high-sheen rim flange.</p>
	<p><strong>Vario-roof: MAGIC SKY CONTROL as an option</strong></p>
	<p>The sixth-generation SL retains the electrohydraulically operated vario-roof which can be retracted to save space, enabling the SL 65 AMG to be transformed into a roadster or a coupé, as the mood takes the driver and depending on the weather, in under 20 seconds. In contrast to the predecessor model, there are two versions to choose from for the new SL: the panoramic vario-roof or the unique panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL. The transparency of the latter can be switched to light or dark at the push of a button.</p>

The electrically adjustable AMG sports seats with single or two-tone upholstery in Exclusive nappa leather with a special AMG diamond pattern are a particular highlight. This distinctive upholstery is also to be found on the door centre panels. Embossed AMG emblems on the seat backrests are standard, as are AIRSCARF neck-level heating, multicontour functionality, seat memory and climatised seats. The designo headlining in leather with partial AMG V12 diamond-design quilting provides the perfect visual and tactile finishing touch.</p>
	<p>The design of the cockpit recalls the SLS AMG: the four air vents styled like jet engines, the E-SELECT lever and the AMG DRIVE UNIT are all reminiscent of the super sports car&#8217;s styling. The choice of exquisite materials and the first-class workmanship which characterise the interior of the SL 65 AMG indulge all the senses. Highlights include the AMG carbon-fibre trim elements, the IWC-design analogue clock, the chromed AMG door sill panels illuminated in white and the AMG Performance steering wheel which is embellished by an AMG logo in the lower metal insert. A speedometer calibrated to 360 km/h in the AMG instrument cluster and the AMG start-up display with an exclusive AMG V12 BITURBO animation hint at the exceptionally dynamic performance of the SL 65 AMG.</p>

	<p><strong>One of the world&#8217;s safest roadsters</strong></p>
	<p>A crash-optimised aluminium structure, standard-fit PRE-SAFE® system and assistance systems on a par with those of the S-Class make the SL one of the world&#8217;s safest roadsters. The rigid aluminium bodyshell forms a robust occupant compartment as well as precisely defined deformation zones at the front and rear. If the vehicle rolls over, A-pillars made from a steel-aluminium material mix and two automatic roll-over bars help to protect the occupants.</p>
	<p>The restraint systems, including two-stage driver and passenger airbags, have been further enhanced. A headbag covers much of the side head-impact area. An additional thorax airbag in the backrest can protect the upper body in the event of a side impact. Further new standard features for the SL include the Mercedes-Benz-developed NECK-PRO crash-responsive head restraints. An active bonnet and a front end with a large, yielding impact area help ensure pedestrian protection.</p>

The latest addition to the family combines the V8 LS7 engine of the Z06 to a roofless body. 	<p>The <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/2012+geneva+motor+show">2012 Geneva Motor Show</a> has been chosen by diminutive German manufcaturer Roding for the world premier of it <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/roding+roadster">Roadster 23</a>, an mid-mounted open two seater that - thanks to the large use of carbon fiber for the chassis and fibreglass for the bodywork - weighs in at on just 950 kg. Under its bonnet pulses a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder supercharged unit courtesy of BMW that develops 320 hp and 450 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.</p>
	<p>The Roadster 23 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds, hitting a maximum speed of 285 km/h (177 mph). Quite remarkable is also the drag of this car - which allows it to go from 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 74.5 mph) in fifth gear in 4 seconds flat - as well as its average fuel consumption, rated at 8.2 l/100km. The suspension set up of this model is totally adjustable, while braking comes from four 328 mm ventilated discs coupled with 4-piston calipers at the front and 2-pistons calipers on the rear.</p>
	<p>The model will be produced in 23 units only (hence the name) and uses an exclusive and original exterior design that exposes several unpainted carbon parts such as the hood, rear, chassis, doors and roof, while the rest of the body can be painted according to the customer&#8217;s wishes. 	<p><strong>Performance made easy</strong><br />
The Roding is a two seat mid-engine sports car with a carbon fiber chassis and a powerful BMW 6 cylinder turbo charged engine. Maximum performance and driving dynamics are achieved through consequent lightweight construction, and a state of the art six cylinder turbo charged engine.</p>
	<p>The Roding Roadster is powered by a BMW high-efficiency six in line turbo engine. The engine generates 320 HP and has a torque of 450 Newton meters. The centre engine is installed in transverse configuration in relation to the vehicle longitudinal axis. The lightweight concept with a vehicle weight of 950 kg in conjunction with the powerful engine give the Roding a power to weight ratio of less than 3 kg/HP. This allows not only spectacular acceleration values but also high curve speeds, which is expressed in a curve acceleration of 1.4 g.</p>
	<p>Shifting is accomplished with a manual 6-Speed transmission, which transfers the power to an limited slip differential with a locking effect of up to 40%. This divides the engine power between the rear wheels, increasing the available traction while accelerating.</p>
	<p>In combination with a sporty mixed tire compound, which can also optionally be ordered as a semi-slick variation, the rear axle thereby always remains easy to control, despite the high engine performance - even with the desired drift. In addition, the shocks and the fully independent suspension with double wishbones can be adapted to the purpose - road or race track - and individually adjusted by the driver.</p>

	<p><strong>23 sophistication in driving</strong><br />
The first cars to be produced are a special edition, limited run of 23 Roadsters, hence the name &#8220;Roding Roadster 23&#8243;.These edition models feature an exclusive exterior design with all visible carbon parts like the hood, rear, chassis, doors and roof unpainted and the rest of the body in any custom paint color the customer wishes. It also includes factory installed racing components. This weight reduced Roadster was designed for the racetrack, but is also completely suited for daily use.</p>
	<p><strong>Perfomance through weight reduction</strong><br />
The essence of lightweight construction is the concentration on only what is necessary and the application of modern materials. The main chassis cell is manufactured of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), while the front and rear subframes are aluminum-CFRP hybrid structures. This material has been proven in its application in aerospace and formula one due to its low weight and high stiffness. Characteristics that play a large role in an open roadster like the Roding, since stiffness and light weight are the foundation for precise handling and impressive road performance.</p>
	<p>Another core element of the main chassis is the integration of the required functions. For instance, the seat mounting points are integrated in the form making adapter brackets unnecessary.</p>
	<p>&#8220;The Roding shows how it is possible to make ideal use of light-weight potentials in the vehicle with the fiber bond-appropriate design. The technologies used clear the way for the structural use of fiber bond materials in the major series&#8221;, explains Dr. Klaus Drechsler (Professor, Technical University Munich), one of the most renowned scientists and technology specialists in the area of CFRP.</p>

	<p>Here is just a recap of the previous post about the new Porsche Boxster 981 and 911 Cabriolet. The arrival of spring urges <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/categoria/porsche">Porsche</a> to update the whole range of open top cars. For this reason, the Zuffenhausen’s manufacturer went to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show to introduce the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/porsche%20boxster%20981">Boxster 981</a> and the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/porsche%20911%20Cabriolet">911 Cabriolet</a>, which have nothing in common with the previous generations.</p>
	<p>The mid-mounted sports car is offered in the traditional Boxster and Boxster S versions: the first one comes with a 2.7-litre six-cylinder boxer engine with direct fuel injection developing 265 hp, while the S boasts a 3.4- litre delivering 315 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds flat (5.7 for the Boxster).  The 911 Cabriolet, instead, is proposed in the traditional Carrera and Carrera S versions with an output of 350 and 400 hp.  The electronically controlled fabric soft top with magnesium frames opens and closes in 11 seconds.  Also includes an integrated glass window as standard.</p>

	<p>BMW showed up at the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/2012+geneva+motor+show">2012 Geneva Auto Show</a> with an impressive fleet of new and not-so-new models that the Swiss crowd surely appreciated. More specifically, the most interesting models  dispatched by the Bavarian carmaker all come from the BMW&#8217;s Motorsport Division: the new <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+M6">M6</a> coupe and convertible, the impressive M550 d-X5, M50d-X6 and M50d as well as the face-lifted X6, X5 M and X6 M, and here is a short video showing us some details of these models.</p>
	<p>The new M6 comes with the same powertrain of the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+M5+f10">M5 F10</a>, including its frightning 560 hp 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 delivering 560 hp with 680 Nm of maximum torque. The M Division did a great job with the new diesel models too: the M550 d, X5 M50d and X6 M50d all come with an innovative 3.0-litre 6-cylinder tri-turbo engine that is already homologated for the Euro6 emissions standards.  Also pretty interesting are the new <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+x5+m">X5 M</a> and <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+M6">X6 M</a>, which just underwent their mid-life restyling. Last but not least, the Geneva event sees the European debut of the 6-Series Gran Coupe, which was unveiled at the 2012 NAIAS in Detroit last January. </p>

	<p>British carmaker Aston Martin is at the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/2012+geneva+motor+show">2012 Geneva Motor Show</a> with two new models that will soon become available on the market: the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/aston+martin+v12+zagato">V12 Zagato</a> - created in cooperation with renowned Italian designer Zagato - and the face-lifted <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/aston+martin+v8+vantage">V8 Vantage</a>, on display in both Coupe and Roadster versions. </p>
	<p>Only 150 units of the beautiful Zagato will be produced, all of which will be equipped with a powerful 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine delivering 517 hp and 570 Nm of peak torque. Performance figures for this car are as impressive as its aesthetics: 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds and top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph). The car should enter the market with an even more impressive 333,000 £ price tag attached to it (roughly 400,000 € / 526,000 $).</p>
	<p>Both version of the revamped V8 Vantage - Coupé and Roadster - are powered by the same 426 hp 4.7-litre V8 engine of the previous range, but receive an upgraded braking system, bigger wheels and a more responsive steering. The cosmetic changes of the car were inspired by the design of the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/aston+martin+vantage+s">Vantage S,</a> now featuring new side skirts, new bumpers and a rear diffuser. Also worth mentioning is the addition to the optional extras list of the model of the new Sportshift II sequential gearbox, which provides for a considerably faster gear shifting.</p>

	<p>the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/categoria/bmw">BMW stand</a> opened the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/2012+geneva+motor+show">2012 Geneva Motor Show</a> in pure style. The competition between the three premium German brands is always tight, and big international shows present the opportunity for a tight show off. The Bavarian company has brought lots of news in Switzerland: among those are M6, the trio M550 d-X5, M50d- X6, M50d and the X6, X5 M and X6 M facelift.</p>
	<p>The new <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+M6">M6</a>, both Coupe and Convertible variants, inherits all the mechanics (and a good part of the frame) of the new <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+M5">M5</a>, focusing on a powerful 4.4 V8 Bi-turbo with 560 hp and 680 Nm, available between 1500 and 5750 rpm. The Coupe shows off a spectacular carbon fibre roof, whiles the Convertible displays a soft top, operated by an electric drive system able to open it in 19 seconds and close it in 24.</p>
	<p>Due to a significant reduction of the cylinder capacity, the increase in performance corresponds to a decline in consumption, quantified by BMW at 30%. The new V8 implements different solutions such as Twin-Scroll Turbo system, direct injection, Valvetronic system. The multi displacement system engine is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with launch control and limited slip differential as standard.</p>

The Coupe accelerates 0-100 in 4.2 seconds and the Convertible in 4.3. The corresponding values of 0-200 are about 12.6 and 13.1 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, but with the M Driver&#8217;s Package, the limiter can be moved up to 305 km / h. The weight/power ratio is equal to 3.3 kg/hp for the Coupe and 3.5 kg/hp for the Convertible. The average consumption is equal to 9.9 l/100 km for the first and 10.3 l/100 km for the second, thanks to the EfficientDynamics package.<br />
It’s well known that the 2012 Geneva Motor Show is a triumph of the Motorsport department: BMW has also unveiled the new super-diesel models M550 d, X5 M50d and X6 M50d. Driven by an innovative 3.0-litres inline six-cylinder with trio of turbo and Euro 6 ready approval, the three models are united by the xDrive all-wheel drive and the output rate of the engine: 381 hp and 740 Nm of torque from 2000 rpm. Also, with Efficient Dynamics package to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.</p>

	<p> Aesthetically the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw%20X6">X6</a> has the headlights improved, with the introduction of bi-xenon as standard and optional full-LED headlamp. It also presents a new range of colours (Orion Silver Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic Brown Metallic and Marrakech) and some adjustments to the dynamic sector to make the driving more pleasant.</p>
	<p>The <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+x5m">X5 M</a> facelift offers new headlights, larger front air intakes and new LED tail lights. Also, optional full-LED headlamps and new M multifunction seats.  There is no change for the 4.4 V8 Twin-turbo with 555 hp output and 680 Nm.  The same changes have affected the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw+x6m">X6 M</a>, which offers standard Adaptive Drive with self-leveling air suspension, EDC and stabiliser roll.</p>

	<p>Last debut in Geneva is the <a href="http://www.eurocarblog.com/tag/bmw%206%20series%20gran%20coupe">6 Series Gran Coupe</a>: presented in January in Detroit, is here exhibited for the first time in Europe.  The four-door Coupe is 500cm long, 11cm more than the original version, 189cm wide and 139 cm high, offering 460 litres of luggage space. Based on the 6 Series platform the Gran Coupe offers a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox, start-stop system and regenerative braking.</p>
	<p>The engine range starts from 3.0 6-cylinder twin-turbo direct-injection 320-hp and 450 Nm (from 1300 to 4500 rpm). The 640i covers the 0-100 km /h in 5.4 seconds hitting 250 km/h, consumes 7.8 l/100 km.  The second unit is the 4.4 V8 twin-turbo diesel, powered to 450 hp and 650 Nm, available between 2000 and 4500 rpm.  It covers 0-100 in 4.6 seconds (4.5 with the xDrive) with fuel consumption of 8.6 l/100 km.</p>
	<p>The only diesel in the range is the 3.0 6-cylinder 313 hp and 630 Nm between 1500 and 2500 rpm, which boasts a consumption of only 5.5 l/100 km.  The Gran Coupe sports electronically controlled suspension, Active Steering and active roll control. From a constructive point of view are worth mentioning the doors and the bonnet in aluminum, the front fenders of plastic material and the boot lid in fibre glass. The mass range is between 1750kg for the 640i and 1940Kg for the 650i xDrive.</p>
