Toyota is expected to launch a convertible version of the GT 86 between late 2013 and early 2014. To further support the news, Car and Driver has published an article where an official source has finally confirmed recent rumours about Toyota GT 86 Convertible.

The Cabrio version of the GT 86 will probably mount the same 2.0-litre boxer naturally aspirated D4-S developed with Subaru. The power output of 200 hp and 205 Nm is transmitted to the rear wheels via a manual or automatic transmission, both with 6-speed. The power delivered is not of the highest, but the lightness of the car makes it exciting to drive and responsive in every situation, both on the track and on the road.

The GT 86 coupe with manual transmission, sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds achieving a top speed of 226 km/h, while the six-speed automatic model covers the 0-100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, with a maximum speed of 210 km/h.

The sixth-generation Corvette will soon be discontinued, to be replaced with a new model after a seven-year career. Introduced in 2005, the C6 Corvette will be proposed in the model year 2013 with a new shade called Night Race Blue, which will be added to the colour palette along with Supersonic Blue Metallic and the lightest Blue Metallic Carlisle.

The my2013 Corvette will also see the introduction of the Black Painted Aluminum wheels, which will replace the current Competition Grey. This last edition of Corvette’s won’t present any new improvements in terms of aerodynamics or mechanics.

Over the years Corvette’s image has been refreshed with the introduction of the ZR1 with 638hp, a car with thrilling acceleration and top class performance. A step below the ZR1, we find the Z06 a sportier racing version of the more comfortable Corvette Grand Sport.

We just received some interesting spy shots feturing the next BMW 3-Series Cabrio. The “F33” has been spotted at a perfect time as we got a sequence of pics showing its hard top coming up. These pisc seem to put an end to the speculations that the model was going back to a soft-top in order to save weigh.

The three-pieces system that we can see in these images seems to be quite similar to the device equipping the current version, with all the parts folding on each other and then disappearing in the trunk. However, front end as well as head- and tail-lights of the new model are expected to be pretty different and way sportier than the F30 sedan. The final version of the model - which might end up being called 4-series - is expected to appear at some point next year.

The Jaguar F-Type made its debut on video. In the footage the new compact sports car is entirely camouflaged, but gives the viewers a glimpse of the future shape and silhouette.

The video is presented by TV commentator and former Formula 1 driver, Martin Brundle. The prototype shown is equipped with a supercharged V6 engine likely to be coupled to an automatic transmission. The Jaguar F-Type has been developed to deliver “stunning sports car performance” and to give the driver a unique driving feeling.

Jaguar will return in the two-seater sports car segment after 20 years of absence; the latest models produced were the XJ220 and the XJR-15 in the 90s. The car will be featuring a newly designed aluminum chassis and will be based on the C-X16 concept. The Jaguar F-Type will be constructed in the Castle Bromwich’ plant; the convertible version could be on the market in mid 2013.

Carscoop has published unofficial rendered images of the Jaguar F-Type. Only a few days ago the English sports car was been unveiled to the public in a two minutes video, still completely disguised. Thanks to the footage with commentary by Martin Brundle, however, it was possible to observe the general outline of the car, powered by a supercharged V6 engine. The final version, that will go into production later this year, will be featuring an all-aluminum chassis, and a convertible design directly derived from the C-X16 concept. It will be built in the factory of Castle Bromwich, and could make its debut as early as 2013.

In the wake of the announcement that the production of the Copen is coming to an end, Daihatsu confirmed that a special 10th Anniversary Edition of the model for the Japanese market is in the works. The last version of the well-known little roadster from Daihatsu will be produced in 500 units only and will come with a slew of special bits to emphasize its status as a celebration car.

Apart from a few special badges both inside and outside the car the aptly dubbed Daihatsu Copen 10th Anniversary Edition will come with a special set of 15″ alloys courtesy of BBS and a white livery with several chrome details, such as the front grille. Inside we have black leather upholstery with contrasting red stitching, and more chromed details for the hand-brake lever and door handles.

As for the powertrain, this final edition of the Copen will be powered by a 660 cc turbocharged engine delivering 63 hp and coupled to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The price for this Daihatsu Copen 10th Anniversary Edition is 1.82 million Yens - roughly 16,700 Euros - for the manual gearbox type, whereas the one with the automatic transmission will cost 20,000 Yens less.

Here is just a recap of the previous post about the new Porsche Boxster 981 and 911 Cabriolet. The arrival of spring urges Porsche to update the whole range of open top cars. For this reason, the Zuffenhausen’s manufacturer went to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show to introduce the Boxster 981 and the 911 Cabriolet, which have nothing in common with the previous generations.

The mid-mounted sports car is offered in the traditional Boxster and Boxster S versions: the first one comes with a 2.7-litre six-cylinder boxer engine with direct fuel injection developing 265 hp, while the S boasts a 3.4- litre delivering 315 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds flat (5.7 for the Boxster). The 911 Cabriolet, instead, is proposed in the traditional Carrera and Carrera S versions with an output of 350 and 400 hp. The electronically controlled fabric soft top with magnesium frames opens and closes in 11 seconds. Also includes an integrated glass window as standard.

It seems like summertime has come a little earlier at the Porsche’s stand in Geneva as the main attractions there are the beautiful, young and topless Boxster 981 and 911 Cabriolet (991-series), both of which have been completely renewed.

The mid-mounted Porsche Boxster 981 is somewhat inspired by the legendary Carrera GT and comes with either a 2-7-litre unit with direct injection or the more powerful 3.4-litre for its ‘S’ variant. The former delivers 265 hp ( registering a ‘+10′ hp over the model it replaces while the latter is credited with an output of 315 hp (+5). Both version will come with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, although a 7-speed automatic PDK dual clutch gearbox is also available as optional extra. Having lost quite a few pounds during the renewal process, the new Boxster can now burn the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.7 seconds, 5 seconds flat for the ‘S’ version, while fuel consumption went down as well: the German carmaker claims an average consumption of 7.7 l/100km for the 2.7-litre and 8 l/100km for the 3.4 unit.

The Porsche 911 Cabriolet makes its debut in Europe at the Swiss event as both Carrera and Carrera S variants are already available for order: the former is pushed by a 3.4 litre 6-cylinder boxer engine delivering 350 hp while the latter uses a 400 hp 3.8 unit. Both these powertrains come with a 7-speed manual transmission, with the familiar 7-speed automatic PDK option will also be available upon request. The model uses an electronically controlled fabric soft top with magnesium frame and integrated glass window that needs 11 seconds to complete both raising and stowing.

Following its virtual launch on the internet a few hours back, the astonishing Lamborghini Aventador J physically shows up in all of its majesty at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. As thoroughly explained in our previous post on this unbelievable car, the Aventador J is a super exclusive one-off created by the Italian manufacturer that will be put up for sale at the end of the Swiss event. There is only one Aventador J on this planet, this one, and therefore just one lucky buyer will have the chance to enjoy the incredible ‘in-your-face’ driving experience that only this one car can deliver. Designed to be the more extreme roadster of the planet, the Aventador J in fact comes with neither roof nor windscreen, something that simply puts this masterpiece in a league of its own.

In a nutshell, this is an all-wheel drive car equipped with the same 700 hp 6.5-litre V12 engine of the LP700 coupe and a super-fast ISR gearbox. In an attempt to keep is weight down to a minimum, the J got rid of useless frills such as clima, audio system and sat-nav and makes large use of innovative and ultra-light materials, including the never-seen-before Carbonskin fabric, patented by Lamborghini itself. Making its debut in Europe, the brand new Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder does not disappoint the crowd that is still rubbing its eyes in disbelief after having seen the undisputed star of the Lamorghini’s stall. The model is basically a convertible version of the Gallardo Balboni and comes with a 5.2-litre V10 engine developing 550 hp that get entirely transferred to the rear axle through the advanced E-Gear automatic gearbox. The Italian carmaker describes it as a “car for purists” and in fact, among the other features, this car uses a special program for its ESP called ‘Corsa’ that neutralizes all of its electronic aids. Weighing in at 1,520 kg, this car can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 319 km/h (198 mph).

Volkswagen showed up at the ongoing 2012 Geneva Motor Show with a slew of new models, most notably the new Golf GTI Cabriolet, the Cross Coupe Concept and the 5-door version of the Up!. The convertible version of the Golf GTI is powered by the same 2.0-litre engine of the hatchback version, delivering 211 hp and 280 Nm of peak torque. this unit can be coupled to either a manual or a DSG dual clutch auto transmission. Its performance figures are pretty impressive: 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 7.3 seconds and 236 km/h (147 mph) of top speed. Aesthetically, the car is almost identical to the model it is based upon, although certain details are wittingly recalling the glorious GTI convertible of the 80s.

Also making its first appearance ever is the 5-door variant of the little VW Up!, which is on display in Geneva in four different variants that were specifically designed for the Swiss event. Its compact design makes it an ideal city car, while its 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine allows it to be pretty responsive and doesn’t need to drink that much. Among the special versions showcased at the VW’s stand in Geneva, there’s also the Swiss Up!, an homage to the host of the kermesse which boasts patterns inspired by Swiss flag both inside and outside. There are also two special versions of the 5-door Cross Up!: the Winter Up!, thought for skiing lovers, and the X Up!, dedicated to those who need to carry a lot of stuff when traveling. Besides, there is also the Cargo Up!, a little van-version of the model for commercial purposes which boasts no less than 1,400 litres of capacity.

The Geneva Motor Show represents the world debut for the Polo Blue GT as well, which is powered by a 1.4 TSI engine producing 140 hp and boasts an average fuel consumption of only 4.7 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 108g/km. The standard model comes with a manual gearbox, but a DSG dual clutch transmission will also be made available as optional extra, an addition that will have the average fuel consumption figure go down to 4.5 l/100 km, with 105 g/km of CO2 emission. Also making is world debut is the new , an innovative SUV with an undeniable sporty flair to it. This car is credited with a total output of 306 hp that is the result of the combined action of its TDI engine as well as two electric motors. Claimed top speed for the Cross Coupe Concept is 220 km/h (136 mph), but the most significant figure for this car concerns its fuel consumption: it requires just 1.8 litres of diesel every 100 km, while CO2 emissions is rated at 46 g/km only. Last but not least, the VW Passat Alltrack is also in Geneva for its official debut on European soil: this all-wheel drive version of the Passat is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI unit delivering 170 hp, and has a ride height increased by 30 mm. Bugatti has introduced Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse (Vitesse means speed in French), a convertible based on the topless Veyron Grand Sport but with a Veyron Super Sport engine, which will be premiered at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The 8.0 l quad-turbocharged W16 engine, thanks to 16 cylinders, four enlarged turbochargers and ten radiators, delivers a staggering 1,200 hp and 1,500 Nm of torque.

It slightly differs from the original motor due to the fact that Moslheim technicians had to make sure the engine captures the right amount of air when driving with the top off. Some parts of the chassis have also been changed in order to make the structure more rigid.

And if we take into consideration that the Super Sport has set the World Record for the average top speed achieved on a two-way run, registering 431 km/h (268 mph), it’s probably safe to say that the Vitesse is about to be crowned the world’s fastest convertible on the market.

Here are the latest spy shots showing the new Porsche 911 Turbo Convertible during some cold weather tests near the Artic Circle. This mule uses less camouflage than the one we saw in the previous set of photos, allowing us to see more of the rear end.

The most distinctive features of the new rear end are the air outlets placed at the sides of the bumper, the two pairs of re-designed mufflers, the mobile rear wing and the new engine cover. As for the front end, the cammo is still a little to heavy to figure out what’s new in comparison to the outgoing model.

The new Porsche 991 Turbo will be powered by a 3.8-litre twin turbo boxer engine delivering more than 500 hp, whose power will be delivered to all four wheels through Porsche’s trademark PDK dual clutch transmission.
