Not even two months after the Fbg par Hermès, and only about seven after the Pur Sang, Bugatti, not yet satisfied, has revealed a new variant on the Veyron: the Sang Noir is in fact the new celebrated version dedicated to reviving the Atlantique 57S of the 30’s - a “surbaissé” model (literally “lowered” and therefore sporty) of the legendary Type57 presented in 1934.
The particularities of this special series are the black opaque colour with chromo inserts, the aluminium mirrors and front grill, and the alloy wheels. Unfortunately technical specifications and production details have so far been kept in the dark.

At the Geneva show our Dutch colleagues at Auto Week tested the waters of the Bentley company but received a blunt “no to a Bentley Arnage W16″. Rumours of using a W16 Bugatti Veyron engine on the luxurious English sedan had been circulating for some time but the project now appears shelved indefinitely.
The denial of a similar prospect arrived from Franz-Josef Paefgen, CEO of Bentley Motors and Bugatti President, who added that regarding another supposed engine project, “adopting a diesel motor on a Bentley is still undecided”.
We’ll have to wait then for a few months and a different market survey to see whether a Bentley driven by a V12 TDI from Audi will ever exist.

Bugatti president Thomas Bscher has officialy denied that a cheap Bugatti coupè/roadster is coming. Au contraire, it seems that the next Bugatti is going to be another million-dollar car: a 950 hp 4 door coupè-saloon. Another Royale ?
The image above is a sketch of this car made by Michiel Van den Brink for Autovisie. There’s talk of a 4 year wait for this car.

According to Auto Bild a 50,000 € Baby-Bugatti is coming, both in a coupè and a roadster version.
The engine would be based on the 2.0 liters Turbo-FSI engine of the Golf GTI / Audi TT. Before being mounted on a Bugatti, it’ll get a nice HP injection: the first power-step should be 280 hp (2010), later it should go up to 320 hp (around 2015). The gearbox would be a 7-speed DSG, probably coupled to a 4WD system.
Thanks to a very rigid aluminium build and a minimalistic cockpit, the weight should be around 1.100 kg, which would let the Baby-Bugatti leave the direct rivals in the dust (cars such as the Porsche Boxster or the BMW Z4). Performance data is projected to be impressive: less than 5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, top speed around 300 km/h for the 320 hp version.
But here is the problem: will Porsche look on and do nothing, or will it use its position as VW’s main shareholder to try and stop this very interesting project ?
The codename for the baby-Bugatti is BG913 (coupè) / BG914 (roadster). The Bugatti will probably be produced in limited numbers (5-6.000 units / year) and it would be the precursor for a new range of models based on the same (or on a similar) plaform and sold under the Audi, VW and Seat brands.

Bugatti is proud of its “sold out” for the Veyron in 2006 and it seems determined to increase production rythms, to shorten waiting times (about 14-15 months long, now).
Yearly production would pass from 50 to 70 units for the monstruos 1.001 ps / 407 km/h / 1.000.000 € Veyron, while the total production run is still limited to 300 units.
There’s also talk about what will happen after the Veyron: a new model could rapidly follow the end of the Veyron’s production run, but it’s still not known whether it’ll be a full blown super-car or a baby-Bugatti with “only” about 300 hp.
